Some few years ago the Coen Brothers scripted a remake of the ’60s romantic caper comedy Gambit (originally starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine) and the remake is finally shooting now under the direction of Michael Hoffman (The Last Station). Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz star in the key roles, and Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman have joined Alan Rickman and Tom Courtenay in the supporting cast. I have just heard that Bob Weinstein and Dimension Films have acquired Kristoffer Aaron Morgan‘s H.P. Lovecraftian horror film The Home. I’m happy to hear that Dimension Films wants to release an original movie again. The Home seems like a film they would have invested in back in the mid-1990′s. It seems like now-a-days, they’re concentrating mostly on sequels, remakes and un-funny parody movies. No word on if Dimension will be releasing the film theatrically or just home video. I’m sure, at very least, The Home will have a film festival run.

Vivendi Entertainment has released a new movie trailer for the anthology film project New York, I Love You. The movie is the next film from the producers of Paris, je t’aime, and features another anthology of short films, this time focusing on the stories of love in New York’s five boroughs. I LOVE California, but I’ve always wanted to live in Manhattan (maybe someday). Films like this certainly don’t help my obsessions with “Gotham” and short films.
The film includes short films directed by Jian Wen, Mira Nair, Brett Ratner, Allen Hughes, Shekhar Khapur, Natalie Portman, Fatih Akin, Joshua Marston and Randy Balsmyer. The film’s ensemble cast includes: Bradley Cooper, Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Natalie Portman, Irrfan Khan, Emilie Ohana, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Maggie Q, Ethan Hawke, James Caan, Blake Lively, Drea de Matteo, John Hurt, Shia LaBeouf, Burt Young, Chris Cooper, Eli Wallach and Cloris Leachman.

Legendary Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki‘s latest movie Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea will finally be getting a domestic release. The film was released last July in Japan, and has since grossed over ¥15.0 billion ($153.1 million). Disney’s John Lasseter has been working with Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy to make the American release of the movie, Miyazaki’s “biggest hit ever Stateside.” Spirited Away earned a little more than $10 million stateside on 714 screens, and the plan is to give Ponyo an even wider release. The movie, retitled just Ponyo, hits theaters on August 14th 2009, and Disney has announced the English-language voice cast.
Noah Cyrus provides the voice of a baby goldfish named Ponyo who desires to be a human, and gets her wish. She runs away from her home in the sea and befriends a five-year-old human boy named S?suke (voiced by Frankie Jonas). Other cast members include Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin and Betty White.
