2011 was the biggest year ever for sequels, with a record-breaking 27 scheduled to hit theaters. And while it’s too early to say exactly how many we can expect in 2012 and beyond, judging by posts like this one it seems safe to say that the trend won’t be dying down anytime soon. After the jump:
- Entertainment Weekly unveils the first look at Sam Worthington in Wrath of the Titans
- Sony registers domain names for the as-yet-unannounced Insidious 2
- Steven Spielberg’s longtime producer Kathleen Kennedy says Jurassic Park 4 is still looking for “a great script”
- Kennedy also says the sequel to The Adventures of Tintin could hit as early as Christmas 2014
- Bradley Cooper reveals that The Hangover Part III could start shooting in L.A. in September

The sequel to last year’s Clash of the Titans began shooting over a month ago, and the first handful images from the film’s set in Tenerife have just been released. (The film is rumored to be called Wrath of the Titans, but as that title has not yet been confirmed, I’ll stick with calling it Clash of the Titans 2 for now.) The sequel features several members of the Clash of the Titans cast, including Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston and Ralph Fiennes, as well as a handful of new stars. Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: LA) replaces Louis Leterrier as director. Check out the photos after the jump.

The Clash of the Titans sequel, which has been referred to as Wrath of the Titans but a press release today calls Clash of the Titans 2, started shooting this week under the direction of Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles). Sam Worthington returns to star as Perseus, but it looks like Gemma Arterton‘s commitment to Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters means she definitely won’t be in the film, as her name is MIA from the release. We’ve now got a pretty full cast line-up, and a full plot for the film, after the break. Read More »
Last year’s hit film Clash of the Titans is the poster child for bad 3D post-conversion. Everyone complained about getting headaches during the movie or there being little to no difference between watching the movie with or without glasses. Jonathan Liebesman is fully aware of this. The director of Battle: Los Angeles has been tasked with directing the sequel, Wrath of the Titans. Despite the negative 3D connotation attached to the first film, he’ll be going the same route.
Wrath of the Titans, scheduled for release March 23, 2012 starring Sam Worthington, Rosamund Pike and Liam Neeson, will be shot on film and then post converted into 3D. But is he making the same mistake that was forced on his predecessor, Louis Letterier? Not according to Liebesman, who said the first film was never thought of as a 3D movie. This movie, however, is being totally conceived with the 3rd dimension in mind. Read some quotes and more reasoning after the jump. Read More »
Last week there was word that Rosmund Pike was on the shortlist for a major female role in Superman. But now it looks like she’s taken a different Warner Bros. gig, as the actress has been cast as Andromeda in the sequel to Clash of the Titans, which has been referred to as Wrath of the Titans. It was a big weekend for rumors; sadly a lot of the most fun genre and superhero film stories are little more than unconfirmed rumor at this point. Pajiba, for example, tweeted that Marvel has a pitch out to writers for a War Machine spin-off film. This is more like a vague confirmation of what we’ve expected to happen, and since Marvel will need some core content to follow The Avengers, we’re bound to hear about another group of films to follow. Seeing an Iron Man spin-off starring Don Cheadle could be a lot of fun, and we’ll update if someone is hired to write the film.
After the break, very tentative updates and rumors on the Escape From New York remake and Clash of the Titans 2, aka Wrath of the Titans. Read More »

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Small updates on a few films have hit the ‘net over the past couple days, in part due to junket appearances by various actors. Sam Worthington, while promoting his new comics and film endeavor, talked about Clash of the Titans 2. Kevin Smith addressed Red State and the possible rating for Hit Somebody, and Angelina Jolie explained her disinterest in Wanted 2.
With respect to the latter, Jolie’s comments are spoilerish for the first film. I assume anyone reading about Wanted 2 has either seen the first or doesn’t care about knowing what happens, but now you’ve been warned. Read More »
