Here are new images for a couple of upcoming CG animated features. One is Sony’s Hotel Transylvania, featuring the efforts of Dracula (Adam Sandler) to celebrate the birthday of his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), which end up being complicated by the attentions of a regular ol’ human (Andy Samberg). The movie is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars) which for me at least, represents the primary appeal of the project.

There’s also The Croods from Dreamworks Animation, featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman in a story about a prehistoric family of early humans.

New looks at both films showed up this week. That’s Mavis from Hotel Transylvania, above, and we’ve got a big image for The Croods below. Read More »

Hot Tub Time Machine Movie Trailer #2

zz442208f2

MGM has released a second green band movie trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine, a new sci-fi comedy starring John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Lizzy Caplan, Crispin Glover and Chevy Chase. The film follows a group of best friends who’ve become bored with their adult lives:

“Adam (John Cusack) has been dumped by his girlfriend; Lou (Rob Corddry) is a party guy who can’t find the party; Nick’s (Craig Robinson) wife controls his every move; and video game-obsessed Jacob (Clark Duke) won’t leave his basement. After a crazy night of drinking in a ski resort hot tub, the men wake up, heads’ pounding, in the year 1986. This is their chance to kick some past and change their futures – one will find a new love life, one will learn to stand up for himself with the ladies, one will find his mojo, and one will make sure he still exists!”

Directed by Steve Pink, the director of Accepted and screenwriter of High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank. I love the concept, I like the cast, and I even digg the screenwriter, but something about these trailers just isn’t doing it for me. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Hot Tub Time Machine

There were a couple of big questions raised by the first trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine. Not “how do these guys get back in time?” (Duh. They use a hot tub time machine.) More important stuff like: “is Clark Duke really meant to be the same age as John Cusack?” And does one of the guys get it on with Gregg’s character’s mom? Serious, deep questions. We need answers.

The new red-band trailer for the film addresses some of those burning issues. It also has naked people, so mark this one NSFW. Then watch it, after the break. Read More »

Well, I was going to put together a snazzy PhotoShop masterwork for this bit of casting news, but I spent the last hour debating Devin at CHUD about globe-spanning Watchmen embargoes0101. Any readers want to give it a shot in the comments? The trades report that a fine cast has mounted up for a novelty sex comedy entitled Hot Tub Time Machine: John Cusack and Rob Corddry have already signed and Craig Robinson (The Office, East Bound & Down) and Clark Duke (Kick-Ass, not Michael) are close to. The group will star as a group of friends and brothers who get together at a ski lodge and travel back to 1987 via the titular bacteria container, a time when the ladies were more interested and Eddie Murphy was Raw.

Right in time for the release of Sex Drive, we’ve posted this installment of VBS’s Drunk History starring Clark Duke as Benjamin Franklin’s “dickhead trust fund son.” As narrated by a hirsute and barfing drunk, we discover that it was a young William Franklin, not Ben (as played by Jack Black), who originally flew a kite attached to a key into a storm to prove, uh, something profound about electricity. We imagine this video lesson is comparable to getting a degree from Internet University sans the eternal shame.
