Turns out we’re getting Hot Tub Time Machine 2 sooner than we thought. After months of speculation regarding a follow-up to the 2010 comedy, last week Adam Scott joined the cast, replacing John Cusack in the cast that features Craig Robinson, Clark Duke and Rob Corddry. Now Corddry confirmed the film will start shooting in the next week or so with Steve Pink returning to direct.
And that’s not all. While appearing on the Howard Stern Show Corddry explained a bunch of additional facts, including one particularly revealing nugget: Scott will be playing the son of Cusack’s character as the hot tub sends the group into the future. Read more below. Read More »

Movie stars, directors, producers and writers get the credit, but without concept artists they’d be nowhere. That goes double for an animated feature like The Croods, which is about an isolated family discovering a world of wonder and beauty they never thought imaginable.
The film, featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman, is out March 22 and it’ll be followed by The Art of the Croods, a hardcover book with over 400 pieces of concept art written by Noela Hueso.

With three days remaining, A.C.O.D. is my favorite film of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Directed by first-timer Stuart Zicherman, it’s about “Adult Children of Divorce” and stars Adam Scott as Carter, a man whose parents (Richard Jenkins and Catherine O’Hara) had a brutal breakup on his 9th birthday. Decades later his brother (Clark Duke) decides to take the plunge into matrimony and it brings up some major issues caused by the traumatic breakup. Amy Poehler, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jessica Alba and Jane Lynch are also along for the ride.
Co-written by Zicherman and Ben Karlin, the script for A.C.O.D. is a Swiss watch. Everything is economical, hilarious, perfectly-paced and never in-your-face obvious. There are loads of big laughs wrapped around unexpected plot points, resonant emotion and great character development. The cast all bring such vigorous life to the film that it almost makes a sad and touchy subject, divorce, into something to be envious of.

DreamWorks Animation doesn’t have quite the consistent track record that Pixar does, but when they get it right, they really get it right. Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon have been among the best non-Disney animated features in recent years, and Madagascar is the rare franchise that seems to be improving with each installment.
Their next project combines Dragon co-director Chris Sanders and Space Chimps writer-director Kirk De Micco with a star-studded cast (Emma Stone, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, etc.) to tell the tale of a prehistoric family venturing out of their cave to explore the strange, colorful world outside. Briefly: MGM may be primarily the home of remakes at this point (Red Dawn, Carrie, RoboCop, WarGames) but did you know it also makes sequels? The last film MGM put into production before bankruptcy temporarily silenced the lion was Hot Tub Time Machine, the comedy with John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke.

DreamWorks just took a giant bath on Rise of the Guardians, but is soldiering on with the task of selling its upcoming slate. The next release from the company’s animation arm is The Croods, an Ice Age-style story about a prehistoric human family who daughter (voiced by Emma Stone) is desperate to explore the outside world. The Croods are forced out of their cave only to come face to face with a strapping young hero (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) willing to guide them away from the end of the world.
This new trailer isn’t as effective as the first teaser was, in part, I think, because it focuses on goofier lowbrow humor, rather than spectacle. But there’s an audience that will love this, I’m sure, so have a look below. Read More »
Next year, you’ll be able to see Nicolas Cage playing a caveman. And by “see” I mean “hear.” He’s the star of The Croods, a brand new 3D animated film from DreamWorks Animation. The film, directed by Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco, is about a prehistoric family traversing a wild environment looking for a new cave to call home. In addition to Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman all lend their voices. The scheduled release date is March 22, 2013.

Rob Corddry and Leslie Bibb may seem like an unlikely couple, but they’ll be united in the fight against a demonic child in Hell Baby. Scripted and directed by Night at the Museum writers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, the comedy centers around a pregnant woman and her husband (Bibb and Corddry) who move into a dilapidated haunted house in New Orleans. In an effort to keep from having a demonic baby, they call upon the Vatican’s crack exorcism team, played by Lennon and Garant. Bet that’ll go well. Production will begin in New Orleans next month.
