Gus Van Sant made one of the bigger missteps of the ’90s with his shot for shot remake of Psycho, but he’s been on a roll in the past couple years with Paranoid Park and Milk. His latest film is Restless, starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper as a pair of kids who are obsessed with death. One of them has a friend who happens to be the ghost of a kamikaze pilot. Reviews out of Cannes were mixed, but it’s a film that leads to quite a sweet trailer edit. There is a new, second trailer for the film, which is now scheduled to open limited on September 16. We’ve got a handful of release dates to share, with the biggest possibly being Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming Pacific Rim, which, if things go well, will begin shooting late this summer or in early fall. Warner Bros. will distribute the Legendary Pictures production, and has just set July 12, 2013 as the release date. Pacific Rim is scripted by Travis Beacham and already boasts Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Charlie Day in the cast. The story is “set in a future where giant malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, and the planet must band together and use advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat.” [THR]
After the break, a new date for Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion, and dates for the Stephenie Meyer adaptation The Host, as well as for Roman Polanski’s Carnage, Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In, and Tucker & Dale Vs Evil. Read More »

Gus Van Sant‘s next film, which was called Restless until recently, has been sounding very interesting. It already stars Mia Wasikowska in a “complex tale of a teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality.” The film may not currently have a title (Restless wasn’t the best name for this movie, anyway) but it does have a lot of new cast members, a couple of which bear very familiar names. Tophrman claims to have gotten his hands on the shooting details for this week’s filming of Rory’s First Kiss. As most everyone on the planet knows, Rory’s First Kiss is the undercover production title for the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight. Of course, we are unable to confirm the authenticity of this information with the production (for obvious reasons). So be warned, these could be planted or fake, but my sources say it looks legit. A major plot spoiler is revealed, and new characters we never heard of (Reese) are included. Check out the details after the jump. Don’t read if you don’t want to know.
