Robert Zemeckis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are telling their own version of the event that made front-page news in the 1970s, when Philippe Petit and a team of conspirators strung a wire between the World Trade Center towers in New York City so that Petit could perform a high-wire walk hundreds of feet above ground. The story has all the tension and planning of a heist, and the daredevil spectacle of the most insane physical feats, but the real idea underlying Petit’s act was artistic.
Sure, there’s a documentary about the event — Man on Wire, which is a great film, as a matter of fact — but The Walk aims to use effects wizardry and IMAX scale to put audiences right up on the wire with Petit. The first full trailer is now available; check out this new The Walk trailer below. Read More »

Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first official photo from Robert Zemeckis‘ Flight follow-up The Walk, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as daredevil Philippe Petit. As you probably know, Petit (with the help of a few conspirators) strung a wire between the twin towers of the World Trade Center in 1974, allowing him to do a 45-minute high-wire performance show above the streets of Manhattan. The Walk is based on Petit’s 2002 book To Reach the Clouds: My High Wire Walk Between the Twin Towers which was also chronicled in the 2008 documentary Man on Wire, and now Zemeckis is crafting a dramatized take on the “the artistic crime of the century.” Check out the first official imafes from The Walk, below.

Initially, the two competitors seem ready to go to war with each other, Neighbors-style. But Mallory is eventually won over by talented young Hassan (Manish Dayal), and takes him under her wing. Watch the trailer after the jump.
