Dying Laughing Trailer - Chris Rock

Following the trailer for the Showtime series I’m Dying Up Here, we have a look at another fascinating glimpse into the world of stand-up comedy, this time one from the real world.

Dying Laughing is a new documentary that feels like it should have been called I’m Dying Up Here, because it features one-on-one interviews with stand-up comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Cedric The Entertainer, Russell Peters, the late Garry Shandling and more, all talking about their worst experiences on stage. These are the times when the bombed, died, crashed and all the other words which describe the worst thing that can happen to a comedian on stage: not getting laughs.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Season 9 Trailer

This past summer brought us the eighth season of the wholly entertaining and unique series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Now here we are, just six months later, and yet another new season is nearly upon us with some great new guests.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee season 9 is coming to Crackle in January, and the guests cruising along with host Jerry Seinfeld this time include more fellow comedians like Kristen Wiig, Norm Macdonald, Cedric the Entertainer, Lewis Black and the return of Bob Einstein (aka Super Dave Osborne). In addition, Seinfeld also has Christoph Waltz on the show for the first time, and they even go off-road to spend some time chatting in a paddle boat. That’s a bingo. Read More »

Barbershop The Next Cut trailer

For a few years in the 2000s, the Barbershop franchise was a pretty big deal. The first film, released in 2002, was warmly received and made back many times its budget. Naturally, a sequel followed in 2004, and then a spinoff (Beauty Shop) and a TV show in 2005. The series sputtered out after that, but because we live in a universe where no franchise ever really stays dead anymore, it’s back this year with a mix of familiar and new faces.

Ice Cube returns as Calvin, who still runs his eponymous barbershop in the South Side of Chicago. The business has expanded to include a beauty shop within its walls, but the neighborhood outside the store has changed even more, and not for the better. Calvin and his friends — including those played by CommonRegina HallAnthony AndersonLamorne MorrisEve, and Nicki Minaj — must come together to save the neighborhood. Barbershop 3 Trailer

By the time Barbershop 3: The Next Cut hits theaters, it will have been 12 years since the previous comedy sequel hit theaters, and 11 years since the spin-off Beauty Shop with Queen Latifah arrived. But the new sequel aims to combine both worlds (kinda), and has them teaming up to fight the increasing presence of gang violence on the streets of Chicago and around the barbershop itself.

Honestly, I’m a little surprised that what started as harmless comedy franchise is tackling a pretty serious issue. But as you’ll see in the first Barbershop 3 trailer, this isn’t like Spike Lee’s Chi-raq, and there is still plenty of lighthearted comedy to be had. Read More »

MCDBARB EC007

It’s time for another trip to the Barbershop. Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man Holiday) is in talks to direct a new installment of the comedy franchise, over a decade after the last one hit theaters. In addition, Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer are nearing deals to reprise their roles. Get all the latest details on Barbershop 3 after the jump.

Along with his brother Shawn, Marlon Wayans left the Scary Movie franchise after the first two movies, but that’s not stopping him from continuing to parody horror tropes. As Scary Movie 5 eagerly rips into Black Swan — only two years after everyone else did — Wayans is taking on the more relevant Paranormal Activity series.

Directed by Michael Tiddes, A Haunted House stars Wayans and Essence Atkins as a couple who move into their dream house but soon find themselves plagued by supernatural ills. The theatrical trailer was nothing short of terrible, but the new red-band version seems to benefit from the added vulgarity. Nick Swardson, Cedric the Entertainer, and David Koechner also star. While the Madagascar franchise has never drawn Pixar levels of respect (what does, really?), for kid-oriented entertainment you could do a lot worse that these films. The series has generally been cute, mildly amusing, and totally inoffensive — which may not sound like glowing praise, but that’s a lot more than I can say for Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked — and the newest entry, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted seems to be along the same lines.

Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, and Jada Pinkett Smith are on board once again as a quartet of Central Park Zoo animals just trying to get back to New York. Unfortunately, they wind up in Europe instead, where they’re chased by a ruthless animal control squad led by Capitaine Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand). In an effort to escape their clutches, they take up with a circus traveling across the continent, meeting new friends like Vitaly the tiger (Bryan Cranston), Gia the jaguar (Jessica Chastain), and Stefano the sea lion (Martin Short) along the way. ‘Larry Crowne’ Trailer #2

Larry Crowne, the second film in which Tom Hanks worked behind the camera as director, is one that I’ve mostly passed over in the last few months. It stars Hanks as a guy who loses his job and goes to community college as part of an attempt to rebuild his future. He makes new friends, joins a scooter gang, and falls for one of his teachers, played by Julia Roberts. (Yep, it’s a big-screen alternate version of Community.)

Tom Hanks tweeted out a link to the film’s second trailer, which provides the first look at George Takei‘s work in the film, among other things. Check it out below. Read More »
