One of the new offerings from AMC in 2014 will be Turn, billed as “the story of America’s first spy ring,” set at a point when there was just barely an America. Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) directs the pilot, with Jamie Bell playing a New York farmer who forms the Culper Ring in 1778. The group of childhood friends becomes the nascent country’s first real spy organization, and aims to upend lingering British presence as the Revolutionary War goes on.
Check out the first trailer below.
Update: When we first posted this, the trailer was made private shortly after. Now it’s back (officially, it seems) so you can check out the footage for real.

Saving the world from a terrifying race of giant sea monsters is serious business. Making a movie about saving the world from a terrifying race of giant sea monsters appears to be a whole other matter.
Although the characters of Pacific Rim weren’t much given to smiling, giggling, or goofing off — they seemed pretty preoccupied with the whole “cancelling the apocalypse” thing — the cast and crew apparently found plenty of opportunities to laugh on set. Check out an adorable gag reel after the jump.

At this point we’ve seen a lot from Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim, but with a couple weeks left before the film opens, why not one more trailer? (Here’s why: the film needs more of a guaranteed audience than it already has, and so Warner Bros. and Legendary are trying to show people what this one is.)
This extended 2-minute TV spot features a longer version of the “apocalypse” speech from Idris Elba, and a more detailed presentation of the launch sequence for the giant robot Jaegers, too. There are some other flashes of new footage, along with a quiet, fearful audio track that goes for tense breaths rather than big “braaaaahm!” noises. There’s good stuff here, though I almost would have preferred to wait for the full film to see a few of these shots. Read More »
Lots of casting news has been flying about for the past few days, and in the wake of Comic Con we’re still catching up on a few things. In this particular casting break you’ll find:
- Nick Nolte will lend his wonderfully grizzled talent to Robert Redford’s new film.
- A Stargate SG-1 actor gets a role in The Dark Knight Rises.
- Jay Chou stars in a new Chinese action film, complete with a teaser. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Briefly: Given that Christopher Nolan is now shooting The Dark Knight Rises, we probably won’t see too many more notable names added to the cast. In fact, this might be the last: Josh Stewart from The Collector and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has taken an unknown role in the film. Like many of the other recent cast announcements, his part may not be significant, but he joins what is looking like an impressive ensemble cast.
So we’ve got returning actors Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman; Michael Caine as Alfred; Gary Oldman as James Gordon; and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, with newcomers Tom Hardy as Bane; Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle; Juno Temple as a “street-smart Gotham girl;” Josh Pence as young Ra’s al Ghul; Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, “a Gotham City beat cop;” Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate; and Matthew Modine, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Daniel Sunjata, Diego Klattenhoff and Burn Gorman. Quite a lineup, and you know we’ll keep you posted (possibly in Superhero Bits) with any new pieces of info that come out. [Variety]
