Results came out of Sundance this year, and shows director Andrew Bujalski (Funny Ha Ha, Mutual Appreciation) moving into more polished comedy than the very low-key films that originally made his name. This one stars Guy Pearce, Cobie Smulders, and Kevin Corrigan as an unlikely trio who are united by Corrigan’s neediness and depression after a divorce. And that sounds pretty heavy, but this first Results trailer makes the story look bitterly funny, with a particularly good turn from Smulders. Read More »

Sex scenes can feel incredibly hot and intimate for those of us watching in the audience, but for the people actually shooting them it’s a different story. The latest behind-the-scenes clip from Joe Carnahan‘s Stretch really drives that point home, showing us what it’s really like for Patrick Wilson and Brooklyn Decker to pretend to screw one another for our enjoyment.
While we’ve seen plenty of clips showing us what action scenes look like before the effects wizards come in to erase the wires and draw in the explosions, this is a rare look at the making of a Hollywood sex scene. Hit the jump to check out the NSFW (for language, not nudity) footage.

Joe Carnahan shot a film called Stretch last year, with Chris Pine, Jessica Alba, Patrick Wilson, and Brooklyn Decker in the cast. Originally set to be released by Universal, it’s not your average studio movie — for instance, that’s Chris Pine in the film, above. Pine’s character is a billionaire who has a shady deal in mind, and recruits the main character of the movie, a chauffeur played by Patrick Wilson, to drive him around as he gets things in motion.
Carnahan himself has said it’s a weird movie, and it has gone through a bit of a weird phase. Originally set for release this past March, the Jason Blum-produced Stretch has been in a sort of limbo as it finds a new release plan. Now Carnahan is releasing the first pictures (and a very small bit of video) from the film, and you can see just how wild it might be. Read More »

Following a solid box office performance by The Purge, Universal is getting back into business with Blumhouse Productions for another microbudget genre pic. Only this one falls a bit outside Jason Blum‘s usual horror wheelhouse.
The studio is set to distribute the Blum-produced, Joe Carnahan-directed Stretch, an action comedy starring Patrick Wilson. Ed Helms and Chris Pine have also signed on in recent weeks, and now Brooklyn Decker has come aboard as well. Get details on her character and the new release date after the jump.

Earlier this week at WonderCon, director Peter Berg revealed that he’d taken inspiration for his new movie Battleship from an unlikely source: Stephen Hawking. Berg had been watching a documentary in which the iconic scientist discussed Goldilocks planets, so called because their distance from the sun is “just right” for sustaining life. NASA has been trying to send signals to those planets in an attempt to discover extra-terrestial intelligence, but according to Berg, Hawking believes this to be a terrible idea because aliens knowing of our existence can do just as much damage as good. Berg then spun that idea into the plot of the film.
Which sounds pretty interesting, but unfortunately, most of the trailers we’ve seen so far haven’t gone into much detail about the sci-fi storyline. So far, they’ve shown us who the characters are and what it looks like when Berg tries his best to be Michael Bay, but we’ve had no sense of what exactly the aliens are doing here. Now a new featurette focuses on just that, explaining what exactly a Goldilocks planet is and how the crew of the USS John Paul Jones find themselves to be defending our planet from vicious otherworldly visitors. Watch it after the jump.

Taylor Kitsch‘s John Carter may not quite have been the blockbuster hit that he and Disney were hoping for, but the star will take a second stab at leading a major action franchise when Peter Berg‘s Battleship hits this summer. Inspired by the Hasbro game, the film stars Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, and Liam Neeson as naval officers dealing with an otherwordly force that threatens to destroy our planet. The new trailer downplays the plotlines and character moments we glimpsed in earlier trailers, choosing instead to dive right in to expensive, explosive Transformers-style action. Watch it after the jump.

As the race for the year’s most coveted trophies came to a close with this weekend’s Oscars ceremony, another much less prestigious awards competition was just getting started. Nominations have been announced for the 32nd Razzie Awards, handed out to the “worst achievements in film” each year.
Leading the 2012 list is Adam Sandler, whose involvement in Jack and Jill, Bucky Larson, and Just Go With It earned him a record-breaking eleven Razzie nominations. That’s more than twice as many as the previous record holder, Norbit star Eddie Murphy, received in 2007. Other standouts include Nicolas Cage, Ken Jeong, Sarah Palin, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I, and The Hangover Part II. Read the full list of nominees after the jump.

At first glance, What to Expect When You’re Expecting doesn’t seem terribly different from similarly star-studded snoozefests like He’s Just Not That Into You and New Year’s Eve. But the marketing folks are clearly hoping to set themselves apart by putting the emphasis on the “comedy” part of “romantic comedy,” and their latest effort is a series of character posters that play up the film’s raunchy sense of humor.
Or try to, anyway. Mostly, they just succeed in making everyone look very heavily Photoshopped (has Brooklyn Decker always looked that much like Missi Pyle?) with cringeworthy lines next to their heads. Sort of like a Cosmo cover, only without the promise of sex tips. Check them out after the jump.

If you’re on the fence about Universal’s Battleship, that being Peter Berg‘s Michael Bay-style ‘humans versus aliens’ movie which will hit next year, this Japanese trailer probably won’t help make up your mind. It has a few small new bits of footage, yes, and also a bit more footage of Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano. But otherwise it’s still the same big, goofy battle movie. Check it out below. Read More »
