There comes a time in every comedic actor’s career when he feels the need to “prove” himself by tackling more serious roles, but the pigeonholing occasionally works in reverse as well. Sometimes, an actor is so associated with heavier parts that the most surprising thing he can do is sign up for something really goofy.
Few would deny Clive Owen‘s dramatic chops, but now the thespian seems ready to really stretch himself in what sounds like a full-on comedy. He’s just signed on for The King of the Castle, written and directed by, of all people, The Sitter scribes Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka. Talk about an unexpected match-up. More details after the jump.

A few days ago, we posted a red-band trailer for David Gordon Green‘s The Sitter, and several of you complained about the very NSFW audio that opens the trailer. I’m not sure why so many of you are watching movie trailers with the volume turned all the way up in your offices and classrooms — do your bosses really not care if you watch trailers all day as long as they’re SFW? If so, lucky you — but rest assured that you can crank this new green-band version up at top volume without risking the wrath of your superiors and colleagues.
Starring Jonah Hill, the “Adventures in Babysitting meets Superbad” comedy follows a lazy young man who gets roped into babysitting for a family friend. Naturally, one thing leads to another, and our feckless hero and his young charges find themselves on a wild ride that includes psychotic drug dealers (Sam Rockwell and J.B. Smoove), a sexy and willing young woman (Ari Graynor), at least one crazy car chase, and some punches in the face. Watch the trailer after the jump.

You might remember a little film we absolutely loved at last year’s Sundance Film Festival called The Wackness. Sony Pictures Classics did a horrible job marketing the flick, and the movie went largely unnoitced. If you havent yet seen The Wackness, buy or rent the DVD/Blu-ray tonight.
Anyway, director Jonathan Levine has found his next project, this time set up at Fox Atomic. The Sitter is described as Adventures in Babysitting meets Superbad, and tells the story of a suspended college student who “has a night to remember when he gets talked into baby-sitting the eccentric kids next door — two boys and a wild 8-year-old girl.”
The spec script by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka was the subject of a heated bidding war and was snapped up by Fox Atomic in January. Gatewood and Tanaka also had a college comedy script on the 2006 Blacklist titled Who the Hell is Sanjay Patel which is set up at Universal. I heard a rumor that Jonah Hill was circling the project, not sure if that is still the case.
