Knight Rider

With the Fast and Furious movies making billions for Universal, it’s no surprise other studios are trying to make their own car films. And if those films are based on well-known properties, that’s even better. Need for Speed is currently in production at DreamWorks, and now The Weinstein Company is moving ahead with a film based on the Eighties TV show Knight Rider.

Brad Copeland, who wrote the 2007 hit Wild Hogs, as well as TV shows Arrested Development and Grounded for Life, has been hired to pen the screenplay about a man who fights crime in his smart, talking car. The original series ran from 1982-1986 and made a star of David Hasselhoff. NBC rebooted the show in 2008, but that only ran one season. The film will presumably start fresh rather than relying on that TV reboot. Read More »

Coffee Town

CollegeHumor‘s silly videos have entertained many a procrastinator for five- or ten-minute chunks, but now the site’s looking to command people’s attentions for a whole lot longer. The self-proclaimed “comedy leaders” are making their first foray into features this summer with the 87-minute VOD release Coffee Town.

The film features quite an array of TV talents, including director Brad Copeland (Arrested Development) and stars Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny), Steve Little (Eastbound & Down), Ben Schwartz (Parks & Recreation), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights), Jake Johnson (New Girl) and, um, Josh Groban. Comedy website CollegeHumor, best known for its viral shorts, is now looking to bring its irreverent sense of humor to theaters with its debut big-screen feature Coffee Town. Whether the company will actually succeed in its goal to become the next National Lampoon remains to be seen, but the promising array of talent they’ve lined up should help move things along.

Arrested Development writer/producer Brad Copeland has been hired to direct the film, his first, from a script he wrote, while Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Steve Little (Eastbound & Down), Ben Schwartz (House of Lies, I guess but he’ll always be Jean-Ralphio to me) and Josh Groban are lined up to star. It’s not the highest profile roster I’ve ever seen, but it’s none too shabby for a company making its first foray into film, either. More details after the jump.

Disney to Remake Flight of the Navigator

Flight of the Navigator

First Witch Mountain, now Flight of the Navigator, Disney is on a mission to ruin all the fun movies from my childhood. That’s right, Disney is remaking the 1986 sci-fi movie Flight of the Navigator.

The good news is that Grounded for Life/My Name is Earl/Arrested Development writer Brad Copeland is writing the script.

The bad news is that Copeland’s only feature film credit was the horrible middle America comedy Wild Hogs.
