Confirmed details on Sam MendesBond 23 are still scarce, but it seems screenwriter John Logan may have let slip a very useful detail about the villain. At a talk earlier this week, Logan hinted that iconic Bond baddie Ernst Stavro Blofeld just might be making an appearance in the upcoming film. Logan didn’t go so far as to actually announce anything, but hey, until we have a better idea of the plot, we’re gonna sit here and read into every dubious crumb of information that gets out. James Bond May No Longer Conspire With Jeffrey Wright

James Bond fans will recognize CIA agent Felix Leiter as a frequent participant in the superspy’s adventures. He was introduced in the novel Casino Royale and has a part in many of Ian Fleming‘s Bond stories. On film, he showed up in the first Bond movie, Dr. No., played by Jack Lord. In the nearly 50 years that follow, Felix has been played by nine actors in eleven films. The latest to play the character is Jeffrey Wright, but recent statements from the actor suggest he won’t be back for Bond 23. Read More »

Here’s a bit of wild speculation about Bond 23 — or possibly not so wild, depending upon how much faith you place in various online translations and reports. Hint: in this case, be cautious. But let’s lay out the steps that have lead some to suspect that the twenty-third James Bond film may be based in part on the most recent Bond novel, and share with it the rather awkward title Carte Blanche. (Which is, I have to say, not anywhere near as awkward as Quantum of Solace. And, not being as awkward, it probably won’t inspire a very funny song by Attack the Block director Joe Cornish.) Read on for the steps that lead to the speculative conclusion… Read More »

Jennifer Lawrence is reportedly leading the pack of actresses vying for David O. Russell‘s The Silver Linings Playbook, ahead of the likes of seemingly every rising (or recently risen) starlet in town. Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Riseborough, and Olivia Wilde were all among Lawrence’s competitors for the part. If the deal closes, Lawrence would begin shooting this fall after The Hunger Games wraps.

Based on a novel by Matthew Quick, the film will star Mark Wahlberg as a former high school teacher who’s just been released from a four-year stint at a mental institution, into the care of his mother. Lawrence would be playing a troubled young widow who eventually becomes a love interest for Wahlberg’s character. [ThePlaylist]

Rhys Ifans Cast in ‘Bond 23′

The twenty-third James Bond movie, for now simply called Bond 23, will start shooting in a few months, and we know next to nothing about it. The film will be Daniel Craig‘s third outing as Bond, this time under the direction of Sam Mendes. Judi Dench will return as M, Naomie Harris will reportedly play Miss Moneypenny, and Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes should have roles as well.

The Telegraph now says that Rhys Ifans is set for the film, and that it will shoot largely in South Africa. Without knowing any more about the script (by John Logan, Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, possibly with Closer writer Patrick Marber doing some work as well), or indeed knowing if this is confirmed, all I can offer is, ‘great choice.’ Mr. Ifans is a versatile, slightly unusual actor, and he’d be a compliment to the new Bond cast.  In the meantime, he has a couple other big films coming out before Bond 23: he’s the Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man, and stars in Roland Emmerich’s Shakespeare conspiracy movie Anonymous. Bond 23 is set for release October 26 in the UK and November 9 in the rest of the world. [via Bleeding Cool]

We haven’t had a lot of real news about the Sam Mendes-directed Bond 23 since the release dates were confirmed, but here’s a nice batch of confirmations and one new bit of info. Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes, the former heavily tipped for a role (going so far as to reveal that he would be the villain if cast) and the latter rumored for some time, both seem to be confirmed for the film. And Miss Moneypenny, a staple Bond character who hasn’t been seen since the Pierce Brosnan films, will make an appearance as well, played by Naomie Harris. Read More »

Will Naomie Harris Be in ‘Bond 23′?

Briefly: We still don’t know very much at all about the twenty-third James Bond movie, other than that it will shoot this fall with Daniel Craig and Judi Dench reprising their roles as James Bond and M, respectively, under the direction of Sam Mendes. Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan are writing, and there may be parts for Javier Bardem and/or Ralph Fiennes, but those are not confirmed.

The latest report is that Naomi Harris, famous for 28 Days Later and the Pirates of the Caribbean films, is in talks for Bond 23. The first report came from the UK tabloid News of the World, but was later confirmed by EW and other outlets. We know nothing about what character she might play — ‘Bond girl’ being the only tag right now — but it’s a start. The still untitled twenty-third James Bond film will be released on October 26, 2012 in the UK and Ireland, and November 9 in the rest of the world.

Briefly: Daniel Craig is all over the place this week thanks to the new posters and trailers for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but he is still the star of another massive franchise with a global fanbase. Today there is a tiny bit of James Bond news, as Sony, EON Productions and MGM have announced a pair of release dates for the twenty-third Bond film. The as-yet untitled movie, just Bond 23 for now, will hit the UK and Ireland on October 26, 2012, and then open in the rest of the world on November 9, 2012. The worldwide date is about when we expected to see the film; the earlier date is just a bonus for those in Britain.

We know very little about the film at this point. Daniel Craig will return as James Bond, under the direction of Sam Mendes. The screenplay is by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. Javier Bardem could end up in the film, and Judi Dench will very likely return. Beyond that, it’s almost all up in the air.
