Now that Peter and Bobby Farrelly are almost done with their long dreamed-of film reincarnation of The Three Stooges, they’re turning their thoughts to the future. The brothers have another TV show in the works, but for their next feature film it sounds like they might revive their 1994 hit Dumb and Dumber. Screenwriters have been hired to write a sequel that will hopefully reunite Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in their original roles. Read More »
Fox’s upcoming The Three Stooges, a long-time dream project of comedy directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly, is an object of curiosity for me. The movie has bounced through a couple studios, and once almost rolled with a high-profile cast that included Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benecio del Toro. Things fell apart, and early this year the project landed at Fox. Then it moved quickly, assembling a cast that includes Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe Howard, Sean Hayes as Larry Fine, Will Sasso as Curly Howard, and Jane Lynch, Larry David (playing a nun!), Sofía Vergara, Jennifer Hudson, Stephen Collins, and Carly Craig.
We’ve seen a few set photos and little else. Now there is a poster image of sorts, but it shies away from really revealing the new Stooges. (Even the old banner above shows more.) Check it out below. Read More »
I’m very curious to see what Peter and Bobby Farrelly have done with The Three Stooges, which is a film they’ve wanted to make for years, and eventually shot early this year in Atlanta with Sean Hayes as Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe, and Will Sasso as Curly. Have they come up with something that will have any of the iconic comic appeal of the original Stooges? That seems impossible, given the fact that they’re making this film in a totally different comedy landscape. Turns out that we’ll find out what they’ve done with it in April of next year. Read More »
Here’s a lovers and spouses collection of casting news, leading off with a nice change of pace report of an actor being cast as the ‘love interest’ for a major actress, rather than the other way around. After the break you’ll find:
- Matt Dillon will woo Anette Bening in Imogene,
- The Killing actress Mireille Enos joins Gangster Squad,
- Stephanie Szostak cozies up to Ryan Reynolds in RIPD,
- and some of the Jersey Shore knuckleheads appear with famous fictional whackos The Three Stooges.

There’s been a lot of talk in Atlanta over the past couple weeks about The Three Stooges, which Peter and Bobby Farrelly are crewing up to start shooting in a couple weeks, but which hadn’t yet locked down the third lead. We know that Will Sasso will play Curly, Sean Hayes will play Larry, and a few other smaller parts are cast as well. (Sofia Vergara will be a ‘femme fatale’ in the second of the film’s three short stories.)
Now it appears that Chris Diamantopoulos, who had a recurring part on the last season of 24, will be the ‘discovery’ to play Moe. Read More »
The latest addition to the cast roster of The Three Stooges is Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, who is now in talks to play a femme fatale. (THR describes her as “a devious woman who pretends to be the wife of a dying man and tells the Stooges she’ll pay them a handsome sum if they kill the man in his sleep.”) The part factors into the middle section of the film; the Farrelly Brothers are presenting the movie structured as three 30-minute shorts. As for the rest of the cast, Will Sasso is Curly, Sean Hayes is Larry, and no Moe has been picked. (Or none has been announced, anyway.) [Original report: Variety]
After the break, Woody Allen and Penélope Cruz reunite; 21 Jump Street gets a bad guy and one more is added to David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis. Read More »
The second Stooge is cast. Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been working on a Three Stooges movie for over a decade, and after a false start two years ago, they’ve got the project set to go at Fox, just as soon as the cast is locked down. Last week Will Sasso from SNL was locked to play Curly, and now Sean Hayes, best known for his role on Will & Grace, will be Larry. Read More »
Briefly: Hopefully we’ll be all done with the casting updates for The Three Stooges by later this week. Our last update was that Will Sasso was looking like a lock for one role, with Moe and Curly as the 50/50 split for his choice. Curly was the obvious way to cast him, and that’s where Peter and Bobby Farrelly have gone.
So that’s one down, and with Will Sasso set as Curly, the Farrellys are free to cast the other Stooges. Word is they’re looking at Hank Azaria and James Marsden. Read More »

It’s difficult to tell what’s going on with the new version of The Three Stooges. Can Peter and Bobby Farrelly not find actors they like to play the three famous comedy characters, or do the actors they like not want to do it? Recent reports pegged Johnny Knoxville as a likely Moe, but then it turned out he wasn’t doing the film and reportedly hadn’t even been offered the part.
Now Will Sasso‘s name is in the mix, and seemingly for any of the Stooges, not just Moe. Read More »
Sam Worthington is going back to Australia. The actor is set to star in Drift, a surfing drama that will be co-directed by Morgan O’Neill and Ben Nott from a script by Morgan O’Neill.
The film is set in 1972 and follows “brothers who start a new life in a remote Australian coastal town. There they contend with suspicious locals and ruthless bikers as they struggle to kick-start a business from their greatest passion — surfing.” Sounds like a pretty old-school film in some way — if the brothers end up knocking heads it could feel like a real drive-in surfing picture. Might be fun. [Variety]
Meanwhile, after the break, The Three Stooges don’t have a starting stooge after all. Read More »
