Following her breakthrough performance in True Grit, the future looked promising for young actress Hailee Steinfeld. Since then, she’s taken on a variety of roles ranging from the likes of satisfactory films such as Begin Again and Ender’s Game to more disappointing projects such as Three Days to Kill and Barely Lethal. But she really got a chance to show a different side to herself in Pitch Perfect 2. Now it appears we’ll get to see Steinfeld blossom into a more mature actress.
In what could serve as the spark towards a career that resembles something like the career of Chloe Grace Moretz or Elle Fanning, we have The Edge of Seventeen trailer. The film is produced by James L. Brooks, the producer of films such as Jerry Maguire and the writer/director of Broadcast News, Terms of Endearment and As Good As It Gets, and it looks like an outstanding coming of age story.

UPDATED: Deadline is reporting Hail, Caesar! standout Alden Ehrenreich has emerged as the frontrunner for the Han Solo movie. Our original story from March 15, 2016 follows.
As the 2018 release date for Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s Han Solo spinoff inches ever closer, the list of potential leads has been getting smaller and smaller. The directors and studio Disney reportedly looked at thousands of young actors for the role, and as of earlier this year had started to narrow down the possibilities. Now they’re in the home stretch, as a final shortlist has emerged. Among those still in the running are Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!). Read More »
With some advanced screenings and a premiere out of SXSW behind us, the buzz on Richard Linklater‘s new comedy Everybody Wants Some!! (yes, the title has two exclamation points) has been extremely positive. Our own Jacob Hall just caught the film down in Austin, Texas and he called it “a joyous film, a comedy tinged with an invisible melancholy.”
In anticipation of the film’s release on April 1st, a new red band trailer has arrived to show off the wild party that drives this spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused. Of course, beware of the salty language and college party nudity that lies within this trailer, making it NSFW or any libraries that you crazy college students might be using to procrastinate. Harrison Ford is Han Solo, as much as any real person can embody any fictional character, and it’s tough to imagine anyone else stepping into the role after nearly 40 years. But with a “young Han Solo” spinoff in the works from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the time has come for us to meet and hopefully fall for a different stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder.
The filmmakers have taken their time, reportedly looking at thousands of young actors for the part, and now they’ve finally started to narrow down their choices. Among those on the shortlist are Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, and Logan Lerman. Hit the jump for more on the Han Solo shortlist. Read More »
Richard Linklater is using the momentum he built with Before Midnight and Boyhood to finally move forward on That’s What I’m Talking About, the film that has been described as a “spiritual sequel” to Dazed & Confused. It’s not an actual sequel, but a 1980-set film that follows set of characters as they go to college. Now Megan Ellison has come on board as a producer, and Annapurna Pictures will partially back the project, with Paramount set to release it in the US. Read More »
In Dazed & Confused the sport on the minds of the main characters was football. (Well, it was drinking and sex, and then football) In the “spiritual sequel” to the 1993 film, That’s What I’m Talking About, the guys will play baseball. Richard Linklater has cast a fond eye towards America’s Pastime before, when he remade The Bad News Bears. Now, his new film will continue Dazed‘s process of filtering his own youthful memories and experiences through comedy. News on the potential That’s What I’m Talking About cast is below.
Update: The first cast member is signed, and it isn’t any of the three people originally mentioned. More info below.
