Spider-Man Spin-Off Marvel Universe - Spider-Man Homecoming

Following the unprecedented collaboration between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios to share Spider-Man, allowing the webslinger to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Avengers, fans were surprised that there were spin-offs being developed featuring ancillary characters like Venom and a team-up movie featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat, especially when Kevin Feige confirmed they wouldn’t be tied to the MCU.

The development of these Spider-Man spin-offs seem counter-intuitive considering how successful Spider-Man: Homecoming looks to be this summer, currently tracking between $90 million and $108 million for an opening weekend. However, according to producer Amy Pascal, just because these movies featuring Spider-Man characters aren’t connected to the MCU doesn’t mean Tom Holland can’t pop up in them as the friendly neighborhood wallcrawler.

silver and black

Sony has been eager to launch its own superhero cinematic universe centered around Spider-Man, to match that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe, and 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe. But their attempts at world-building fell apart in Amazing Spider-Man 2, and planned spin-offs like Sinister Six completely fell part.

Now with Spider-Man: Homecoming generating good buzz, Sony is reportedly taking a second swing at that elusive cinematic universe, this time with an all-female team launched from its upcoming Silver & Black movie.

The studio has just hired The Secret Life of Bees, Love and Basketball, and Beyond the Lights director Gina Prince-Bythewood to direct their Black Cat and Silver Sable movie, which now has an official title. Get the latest info below.

spider-man spin-off

Last week, Sony announced that they were making a Venom movie. And now, it looks like they’re trying to go all-in on the Spider-Man spin-off business, as a film centered on Black Cat and Silver Sable is on the way. Sony’s complete revamp of its Spider-Man franchise continues. First, the company moved The Amazing Spider-Man 3 back several years.
