It’s only October 2011 but Hollywood is already gearing up for October 2012. Lionsgate in particular will have a very bloody month. That’s when they’re expected to debut their latest acquisition, Adam Wingard’s awesome horror/thrillerYou’re Next as well as the latest installment in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.
Set for release October 5, 2012, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D ignores everything that came after the 1973 original by picking up immediately after the Tobe Hooper film left off. It’s directed by John Luessenhop (Takers) and stars Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief) as a young girl who heads to Texas to collect an inheritance that includes the infamous Leatherface.
I was on the blazing hot Louisiana set of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D in August and while I can’t say anything more than that, I’ll say the film is certainly a love letter to fans. David Ayers wrote and will direct End of Watch, which already has Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena cast as two LAPD officers who “confront marriage, love, fatherhood and the harsh realities of the Los Angeles streets.” Now Anna Kendrick and Natalie Martinez (Detroit 1-8-7) are in talks to play the respective love interests in the movie. We don’t have too many more details on End of Watch, but the film shoots later this summer. [Variety]

Screen Gems is getting into a different kind of genre film — while still working with Resident Evil and Underworld movies, the outfit is also putting together Love Don’t Let Me Down, a country music picture produced by Tobey Maguire. The primary cast now includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester.
Shana Feste wrote and will direct, and the story “revolves around a rising young singer-songwriter (Hedlund) who becomes involved with a fallen country singer (Paltrow). As they embark on a career resurrection tour with her husband and manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Meester), romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all.” No word yet on anyone’s dog dying or truck breaking down, but even money says at least one of those things happens. A new movie trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman‘s Repo! The Genetic Opera has gone online as the Fantasia Film Festival begins next week. I hate to rehash the quotes used in the trailer, but the movie looks both stunning and original, and might very well become an instant cult classic. It looks like Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Blade Runner meets Saw. I also love the fusion of comic book styling used in the backstory and actor credits. And did I mention the music? Set in the 2056, REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, tells the story of an epidemic of organ failures that devastates the planet, killing tens of millions.
