Two of Tim Burton‘s projects for 2012, Dark Shadows (which he directed) and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (which he produced, with Timur Bekmambetov directing) have yet to show any footage to the public. But both are slowly rolling out new images.

Brand-new posters have just been released for two very different literary adaptations due out next year. The first is Timur Bekmambetov‘s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, an adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith‘s alternate-history horror about the sixteenth President of the United States; the other, Gary Ross‘ The Hunger Games, based on the first volume of Suzanne Collins‘ insanely popular dystopian YA series. Akiva Goldsman is still working towards the realization of his first effort as a feature film director. For quite some time, the writer/producer has wanted to bring to the screen an adaptation of Mark Helprin‘s novel Winter’s Tale. In February Warner Bros. agreed to make the film, though at the time it looked like the project was going to have to wait until after the shoot for the first feature in the Dark Tower series, which Goldsman is writing and producing.
With The Dark Tower sidelined for the time being, Goldsman is actively working on Winter’s Tale. A casting shortlist has emerged, and while the picks aren’t final by any means, this will give you an idea of where he’s going with the project. Read More »
The latest addition to Alex Proyas‘ adaptation of Milton‘s canonical poem Paradise Lost is Casey Affleck, who is in talks to play the God’s messenger, the angel Gabriel, in the film. Along with him comes Camilla Belle (10,000 B.C.), who is reportedly the top choice to play Eve. Read More »

I talked about the very serious film Paradise Lost earlier today — the documentary about the just-freed West Memphis Three. But there’s that other Paradise Lost being developed by Legendary Pictures and director Alex Proyas. That’s the very loose adaptation of the epic poem by Milton that chronicles the break between Lucifer and Heaven. The film will be a largely mocapped, CGI affair with Bradley Cooper playing Lucifer and Benjamin Walker playing the archangel Michael. And now they’ll be joined by Djimon Hounsou as Abdiel, the angel of death. Read More »
Benjamin Walker, the star of rock musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, walked away from playing Beast in X-Men: First Class, only to end up in the title role of Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now he is finishing a deal to appear in another big movie that will revamp an old tale. Only this time, the tale is much older and the scope is infinitely more broad: the actor will be the Archangel Michael in Alex Proyas‘ Paradise Lost, which already stars Bradley Cooper as Lucifer.
