One of the more appealing TIFF premieres is 360, from director Fernando Meirelles (City of God). We’ve covered the film a bit in the past year and change as it cast Rachel Weisz, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Foster and more, but things have been a bit quiet since then.
The film is written by Peter Morgan based on Arthur Schnitzler‘s play Reigen. (Also adapted by Max Ophuls as La Ronde; a Schnitzler story was also the source for Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut.) The play is an erotic drama that features a number of couples, with one half of the couple from one scene appearing as half the couple in the next, and so forth. (So the couples would be essentially: AB, BC, CD, DA.)
With the film about to premiere at the festival, we’ve got some new images, which you can see below. Read More »

When John Travolta was cast as notorious gangster John Gotti, one had to assume that was the lead role of the movie. But when the title to the film was changed from Gotti: Three Generations to Gotti: In the Shadow Of My Father it became pretty obvious, Gotti Sr. wasn’t the plum role. The role of John Gotti Jr. was and Ben Foster has just been cast to play him.
Despite some ongoing controversy, Gotti: In the Shadow Of My Father is scheduled to begin pre-production next month for a January start date. Foster and Travolta will co-star with Al Pacino and Kelly Preston under the direction of Barry Levinson. The real Gotti Jr. is a consultant on the project, which was recently in the news because Joe Pesci, once cast as Gotti’s second in command, filed a lawsuit against the production company, Fiore Films. Yesterday we saw the purported synopsis of Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus, a rundown of the film’s plot that gave away a great deal of the story structure. Assuming, that is, that it was accurate at all. Fox has denied the rundown, and issued in its place what must be the most non-detailed synopsis in movie history. It isn’t the best counter-move, as denials of story leaks go, but read the new official line below and see what you think. No spoilers in this one! As a bonus, there is also word that Ben Foster has been given a role in the movie, which is continuing to shoot in the UK. Read More »

CBS Films has released an uncensored red band movie trailer for The Mechanic, British director Simon West’s (Con Air, Tomb Raider, When a Stranger Calls) remake of the Charles Bronson thriller starring Jason Statham, Ben Foster, and Donald Sutherland also co-stars. The story follows Statham as a veteran hitman who takes on an apprentice (Foster) who has a connection to one of the hitman’s previous victims. The trailer has a bit more blood than the previous green band trailer, and a brief shot of top-frontal nudity. I’m not sure I care much for the story (hasn’t this been done more than a few times before?) but the action sequences looks like a lot of fun. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. Add one more to the cast of McG‘s This Means War, in which Chris Pine and Tom Hardy go to war over the affections of Reese Witherspoon. (Angela Bassett was just cast the other day.) Mad Men‘s Abigail Spencer has signed on; she’ll play Tom Hardy’s ex-wife. Personally, I might do more fighting over her than Reese Witherspoon, but that’s just me. [THR]
After the break, Ben Foster joins a Mark Wahlberg movie, and John Singleton will direct the younger Hemsworth. Read More »

CBS Films has released the official trailer for The Mechanic, British director Simon West’s (Con Air, Tomb Raider, When a Stranger Calls) remake of the Charles Bronson thriller starring Jason Statham. He’s got Ben Foster along for the ride, presumably taking over the role played by Jan-Michael Vincent in the original. Donald Sutherland also co-stars. Oren Moverman‘s Rampart is one of the films I’m most excited about that hasn’t been shot yet. Why? Because Moverman wrote and directed a fantastic picture in The Messenger, and then you team him up with James Ellroy and Ellroy’s long-standing interest in the Los Angeles Police Department. Mix in Moverman’s leads from The Messenger, Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster, and then the rest of the cast, and this might be a winner.
Who’s the rest of the cast? Just like the headline says: new names include Steve Buscemi, Sigourney Weaver and Robin Wright. Read More »
