Briefly: One highly anticipated awards contender and another highly anticipated genre film have just been given release dates by Paramount Pictures. The awards contender is Alexander Payne‘s follow-up to The Descendants, Nebraska. Starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte as a father and son on a road trip, it’ll be released November 22.
The Michael Bay produced, Back to the Future II influenced found footage film Almanac has also been given a date. Directed by Dean Israelite and written by Andrew Stark and Jason Pagan, it’ll be out February 21, 2014. Read more about its mysterious, time-travelling plot here. [Deadline]

Just as we’re enjoying the last of 2012′s cinematic offerings, the latest edition of the Black List has hit the web. The annual survey highlights the hottest unproduced screenplays of the year, as based on the votes of hundreds of executives.
The term “unproduced” is used rather vaguely here. Some of these scripts (like Ivan Reitman‘s Draft Day and Wally Pfister‘s Transcendence) already have a director or star attached, while others are still floating around in search of the right studio or producer. The subjects and honorees range greatly as well. Nazi hunters, Hillary Clinton, the NFL, and time-traveling teens are among the subjects of this year’s winners, and the screenwriters run the gamut from industry newcomers to seasoned pros.

A teenager discovers the ability to time travel and uses a book of sports results to his benefit. This, is not, the logline for the second act of Back to the Future Part II. It’s the reported plot of Almanac, a mystery project from Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes which was announced last month. At the time, plot details were under wraps save for the fact that it was a found footage film in the vein of Chronicle. Now, one site has gotten some inside info and provided a bunch of details.

As if Michael Bay didn’t have enough to do, prepping one film and finishing another, he and his Platinum Dunes partners just sold a top secret found footage film to Paramount. It’s called Almanac and was written on spec by Andrew Stark and Jason Pagan, with Dean Israelite attached to direct. They’re all newcomers (though Israelite is the cousin of Jonathan Liebesman.)
Not a lot is know about the film, but sources tell us it’s very much in the vein of Chronicle except with time travel instead of superheroes. Read more after the jump. Read More »
