2017 summer movie preview

The summer season is almost upon us and you know what that means: movies are about to get bigger, louder, and more expensive. And, if we’re lucky, they’ll also be pretty great!

The /Film team examined the list of every single major wide release (our indie and streaming preview arrives next week) hitting theaters this summer and argued, debated, and occasionally agreed on which 25 movies we’re most looking forward to watching over the coming months. The staff then voted, ranking them from “movies we want to see” to “movies we want to see right now.” So here’s our 2017 summer movie preview, which features superheroes, evil dolls, talking cars, pirates, sharks, dead strippers, World War II, and so much more.

alien covenant neomorph

When I visited the set of Alien: Covenant last year, we toured the film’s creature shop and one thing was very clear: this movie would feature a more traditional Xenomorph and a bunch of creepy, slimy, and hungry new friends. Now, a newly released image from the film reveals one of the new aliens who will menace director Ridley Scott‘s ensemble in the new movie: the pale, spindly “Neomorph.”

Alien Covenant Promos

The crew aboard the Covenant are in for one rude awakening. They’re all hopeful for their colony expedition and ready to start new lives, but what they don’t see coming are Xenomorphs, chest bursters, and your friendly neighborhood homicidal droid, David (Michael Fassbender). Daniels (Katherine Waterson) and friends are mostly doomed, but they don’t know that yet in some new Alien: Covenant promos, which features the film’s heroine and Captain Oram (Billy Crudup) sending messages back home intercut with some found footage of everything going to hell.

Alien Covenant international poster

We’re only a month away from witnessing some nasty xenomorphs tear apart the crew of the colony ship known as the Covenant. A recent poster for Sir Ridley Scott‘s Alien: Covenant went heavy on religious subtext, while the new international poster highlights the film’s stars. It’s a less artful piece of marketing for the sequel, but at least it has Billy Crudup in full view.

Below, check out the Alien: Covenant international poster.

Alien Covenant TV Spot

Yesterday brought the announcement of Alien Day 2017 along with a batch of new TV spots promoting the release of Alien: Covenant this month. One of those TV spots aired during the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournamentj last night and it included the hashtag #emohemekat. If you follow that hashtag on Instagram, it takes you to a viral account with only one post, and that post just so happened to be an extended spot featuring new footage from the movie that hints at the fate of a certain character from Prometheus. Since the reveal is a bit of a spoiler, we’ll wait to discuss it until after the jump.

Alien Day 2017

This year brings a new Alien film to the big screen, with Ridley Scott directing yet another installment of the franchise he began back in 1979 (and has had plenty of ups and downs in the years since). Alien: Covenant will hopefully bring the franchise from the slight slump that came with the prequel Prometheus, especially with as many as four more movies potentially in the works.

Hyping up the release of Alien: Covenant, we have a new batch of TV spots that feature some snippets of new footage from the sequel. In addition, fans who celebrated the newly named Alien Day on April 26 last year will be able to enjoy another 24-hour celebration of the film franchise this year. There will be a live streaming event, an interactive trivia challenge, worldwide screenings, all-new product launches, special reveals and more.

Find out about the Alien Day 2017 details and watch some new TV spots below. Read More »

Alien Covenant poster

“The path to paradise begins in hell,” the Alien: Covenant trailer ominously declares as the crew members on the colony ship Covenent prepare to get slaughtered. The new poster for Ridley Scott‘s second Alien prequel certainly hits that theme on the nose, with a dark, disturbing poster reminiscent of Renaissance paintings of angels and demons. Let’s check out that poster. And while we’re at it, let’s also explore its obvious influences.
