The latest addition to Neill Blompkamp‘s second feature Elysium is a good one: Diego Luna looks like the choice to play Julio, the closest friend of Matt Damon‘s character. In announcing the casting, Variety says the story ” revolves around aliens and humans doing battle on earth,” which is a slightly different description than we’ve heard in the past. Then again, we’ve heard very little description of the film so far, other than that Jodie Foster plays the head of state of an alien world, and that the film takes place 150 years in the future, with a socio-political bent.

Elysium also features Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, and Alice Braga. It shoots in Vancouver and Mexico City this summer, with a March 1, 2013 release date planned. We’re excited to see what’s in store; perhaps Comic Con will be the occasion that gives us a look at the film.

After the break, Jason Bateman joinsVince Vaughn in Insane Laws, and Garret Dillahunt gets a new role, which automatically makes the world a better place. Read More »

The latest addition to the cast of Neill Blomkamp‘s mysterious second film Elysium is Alice Braga, who has been seen in Predators, Repo Men, The Rite, and City of God. As with most of the cast of the film, we know nothing about her role at this point. Indeed, apart from the fact that the script contains some of the same blend of sci-fi and topical commentary that characterized District 9, and the fact that it is set 150 years in the future and involves Jodie Foster as the head of state of an alien planet, we know very little about Elysium as a whole. ‘The Rite’ Trailer #2

The Rite is based on ‘s nonfiction book : The Making of a Modern Exorcist, but the film, directed by Mikael Hafstrom and starring Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Toby Jones, looks like it has taken a few liberties with the text. I hope not too many, because the idea of a young seminary student (O’Donoghue) learning a thing or two about exorcism from an odd older priest (Hopkins) has some promise.

We’ve seen one trailer already; now there’s a second, which gives up a bit more story and a few more thrills. Read More »

International Movie Trailer: Predators

Predators

This is the trailer Fox should have released in the first place. We’ve seen one domestic trailer for Nimrod Antal‘s Predators, produced by Robert Rodriguez based on his story treatment, and a load of clips and photos. But none of the materials have shown the movie a lot of people hope this will be. This international vaguely red-band trailer does. It makes Predators look like exactly the tense, violent sci-fi adventure it should be. Read More »

jon-hamm-1

Since the great success of Mad Men, we’ve been waiting to see Jon Hamm break into movies in a huge way, but with the show still going, he’s primarily taken supporting roles. He’s shot parts for a couple forthcoming projects, like Ben Affleck’s The Town, and Sucker Punch and Howl. Now he’s in talks for the currently untitled wedding comedy that Kristen Wiig wrote and will star in.

Also in talks are Dianne Wiest (lately of In Treatment, in addition to many classic Woody Allen films and more) and Matt Lucas (Little Britain, Alice in Wonderland). Judd Apatow is producing and Paul Feig is directing. Between that re-teaming and the fact that this could be Wiig’s biggest project to date, this was already worth paying attention to. With Hamm and Wiest, it could get even better. [Production Weekly]

After the break, a trio of excellent names for the exorcism film The Rite, and an open casting call for the new David Chase feature project. Read More »
