This past Friday (the 13th) Anvil! director and The Terminal writer Sacha Gervasi began to shoot a film called Hitchcock, in which Anthony Hopkins plays the director of films such as Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo, and Rear Window.
This film is based on Stephen Rebello‘s great book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, and also stars Helen Mirren as the director’s wife, Alma; Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh; Jessica Biel as actress Vera Miles; and James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, whose alter-ego Norman Bates is one of the most famous screen characters of the 20th century. (Edit: and how could I forget this week’s addition — Ralph ‘The Karate Kid’ Macchio plays Psycho screenwriter Joe Stefano.)
Now we’ve got the first look at Hopkins in character as Hitchcock, in a pose that emulates photos of the director’s famous profile. Read More »

Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, that other Alfred Hitchcock sorta-biopic that doesn’t star Toby Jones as the rotund Master of Suspense, is pulling its cast together quickly now. Anthony Hopkins has been attached to play Hitch for some time, with Scarlett Johansson set to play Janet Leigh and James D’Arcy set for the Anthony Perkins role. The film will be directed by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil!) with its roots in the book of the same name by Stephen Rebello.
Earlier today we reported that Jessica Biel will pay Vera Miles, and now four more actors have been added to the roster: Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg and Michael Wincott. Read More »
Say the name “Alfred Hitchcock” to people and the first thing they think of is Psycho. Everything about the 1960 thriller has become iconic: the actors, the shots, the plot twists. More than any of the director’s other films, it’s the most often referenced and talked about. Which is why Fox Searchlight is moving ahead with a film called Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho which will be about exactly what the title suggests. Anthony Hopkins has been attached to play the director for some time and we recently heard Helen Mirren would play his wife, Alma. That’s now confirmed.
The other two leads, who’ll play the leads of Psycho itself, have also just been cast. Scarlett Johansson will play Janet Leigh and James D’Arcy (Master and Commander, W.E.) will play Anthony Perkins. Read more after the jump. Read More »

After years of development projects trying to get a movie about Alfred Hitchcock on the screen, two are coming close to fruition. The first is Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, based on Stephen Rebello‘s book of the same title. (Rebello co-scripted with Black Swan writer John McLaughlin.) The film has had Anthony Hopkins set to play Hitch for a while, and just moved from Paramount to Fox Searchlight. And now Helen Mirren will likely play Hitchcock’s wife Alma Reville.
Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) is directing this one, the subject of which should be pretty evident from the title, and THR says that this deal is still in early stages, but the film hopes to shoot in April.
After the break, part of the creation of The Birds will hit HBO and the BBC. Read More »
