‘The Hunger Games’ Trailer

Here’s the first full trailer for the Gary Ross-directed adaptation of The Hunger Games, the first novel in Suzanne Collins‘ darkly futuristic trilogy of novels about teenagers chosen by lottery to fight to the death as representatives of their local district. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth are the young leads in the Lionsgate film that could be the studio’s answer to Twilight, but hopefully with a harder edge.

Given Lionsgate’s tendency to trickle out The Hunger Games info one tiny bit at a time, you could be forgiven for rolling your eyes at yet another round of news on Gary Ross‘ dystopian teen epic. But happily, today’s offering is one of the most interesting things we’ve seen come out of the marketing team in a while.

The studio has just released eight brand-new character posters for the film, offering close-up profiles of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Effie (Elizabeth Banks), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Rue (Amandla Stenberg), and Cato (Alexander Ludwig). And trust me, they’re way more exciting than those district seals that were released earlier this month. Check ‘em out after the jump.

For the third straight day, Lionsgate has cast a very important role in their upcoming film The Hunger Games. Things were a little crazy there for a while as they kept announcing a cavalcade of unknown kids who would be competing in the titular event: an every-kid-for-himself, no holds barred, televised battle to the death. Finally though, the last pair of Tributes (making 24 total) have been cast and these are two of the most important, not including Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) of course.

The roles of Cato and Clove, two “career tributes” who are bred to compete in the Games and pose a more than formidable threat to the stars of the movie, will be played by Alexander Ludwig (Race to Witch Mountain) and Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan). This is on the heels of finding out that Wes Bentley is Seneca Crane, Stanley Tucci is Caesar Flickerman, Woody Harrelson is Haymitch Abernathy and a whole bunch of other roles that might not seem important to you now but, come March 2012, you’ll care. At least, you will if Gary Ross can pull off a faithful adaption of Suzanne Collins‘ novel. Read more about Cato and Clove after the break. Read More »

Now that Jennifer Lawrence has officially been cast in the lead role of Katniss Everdeen, it’s time to fill in some of the other major parts for The Hunger Games. Casting has begun in earnest for the roles of Peeta Mellark, a fellow Hunger Games competitor who has feelings for Katniss, and Gale Hawthorne, Katniss’ best friend from home. The list of contenders seems to contain a decent mix of rising actors, including previously mentioned names like Josh Hutcherson and Hunter Parrish. But the really great news? Alex Pettyfer is nowhere to be seen — so far, at least. Read more after the jump.

Race to Witch Mountain Movie Trailer

Disney has released the first trailer for Race to Witch Mountain. It’s easy to immediately discount any kids film (outside of the Pixar-animated movies), but I actually think Witch Mountain looks like disposable fun. Kinda like the kid flicks from the 1980′s. And that might just be the echos of my fond childhood memories of Escape to Witch Mountain, a film this is based on. Please, tell me what you think in the comments below.

Official Plot Synopsis: Race to Witch Mountain is a thrilling action-adventure about a hard luck Las Vegas cab driver Jack Bruno (DWAYNE JOHNSON), whose life is thrown into chaos when apparent ‘runaway’ teenagers Sara (ANNASOPHIA ROBB) and Seth (ALEXANDER LUDWIG) jump into his taxi. He soon realizes his two fares are children with exceptional paranormal powers whom he must protect as they elude a collection of ruthless enemies.
