Birdman alternate ending

Birdman, directed byAlejandro González Iñárritu from a script by Alexander Dinelaris, is pretty cynical about Hollywood product. But if things had gone the way the film was originally scripted, it would have ended with an even more pointed jab at the studio franchise machine.

In the film, Michael Keaton plays an actor whose most popular role, Birdman, haunts him as he attempts to mount a stage play. The parallels between Birdman and Batman are impossible to miss. But the original script ended with a scene that took the film’s structure forward to another actor/character pair: Johnny Depp and his Pirates of the Caribbean alter-ego Jack Sparrow.  Read More »

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu tv series

Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s film career remains plenty busy, with the dark comedy Birdman due out later this year and the revenge drama The Revenant gearing up for next year. Nevertheless, he’s preparing to dive into the world of cable TV.

Starz has just given a ten-episode order to The One Percent, a drama co-created by Iñárritu. Ed Helms, Hilary Swank, and Ed Harris are on board to star. Hit the jump for more on the Iñárritu TV series.

It’s no exaggeration to say Alejandro González Iñárritu has built his career on human misery. Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, and Biutiful were thoughtful, inspiring, even beautiful in their own ways, but one thing they weren’t was cheerful. But apparently there’s only so much gloom and doom even he can take.
