We already know what Larry David‘s new film will be about (a marketing exec who misses out on a lucrative startup) and how it’ll be distributed (on HBO). Now we also know what it’ll be called and who’ll star in it.

According to a new report, the movie’s now going by the name Clear History, and the cast contains a healthy mix of comedians and non-comedians. In addition to David and the previously rumored Jon Hamm and Michael Keaton, the confirmed cast also includes Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Philip Baker Hall, Amy Ryan, Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, and JB Smoove. Greg Mottola‘s schedule is quickly filling up. Earlier this week, the Superbad helmer signed on to adapt the Jeffrey Eugenides novel The Marriage Plot for producer Scott Rudin. Now he’s entered talks to helm something completely different: an untitled comedy for Fox Searchlight, with Curb Your Enthusiasm creator/star and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David in negotiations to star. Sacha Baron Cohen is preparing his next semi-improvised, semi-political comedy. The Dictator, which may or may not be inspired by Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator (bet on ‘may’) has Borat director Larry Charles set to direct from a script by Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel. The script, which has Sacha Baron Cohen playing dual roles, may or may not be followed to the utmost degree.

Last week we heard about an actress shortlist assembled as producers cast the film’s female lead, and one of the primary concerns for the woman in question was an ability to improvise. So it isn’t much of a surprise that Anna Faris got the nod. She’s now negotiating a deal to appear in the film. Read More »
