One of the buzziest trailers to come out of this year’s Comic-Con was Suicide Squad. As Russ put it, the footage teased “a viciously detailed film, with a real eye for keeping things grim and weird.” It won the interest of fans and non-fans alike. Which is all well and good for Warner Bros. — but if you fall into the latter category, you might’ve found yourself as confused by the trailer as you were intrigued.
While characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are familiar to just about everyone on the known planet, that’s definitely not the case with Suicide Squad. Fortunately, with over a year to go until the film’s release, there’s plenty of room to get your bearings, and with our help you’ll be caught up in no time at all. Hit the jump for our rundown of the Suicide Squad characters. Read More »

We already know that the Joker will appear in Suicide Squad along side Harley Quinn, Enchantress, Captain Boomarang, Deadshot and Rick Flagg. Now, another major DC bad guy is joining the mix.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been cast as Killer Croc in the David Ayer directed film. He’s best known for his role on Lost but also recently appeared in Thor: The Dark World, which should make comic fan’s heads spin.

At this point you probably have a pretty good handle on the style of a Paul WS Anderson movie — he turns out one b-movie after another that use affordable effects, attractive stars and genre concepts to lure in audiences. And the audiences always seem to show up, making Anderson one of the more reliable directors from a business perspective.
Here, he changes things up a bit for Pompeii. The attractive cast is there (Kit Harinton, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Paz Vega) as are the big digital effects and gritty but pretty violence. But there’s also a real historic backdrop — the destruction of the ancient city of Pompeii after the explosion of the volcano Vesuvius — giving the story a real weight. Will it work? Get some idea via the new trailer below. Read More »

There comes a moment in every person’s life when they realize that life just isn’t fair, and there’s fuck-all they can do about it but survive the best they can. Unfortunately, part of that injustice is that some folks are forced to learn that lesson much sooner than others.
Like the title characters of George Tillman Jr.‘s The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete. Mister (Skylan Brooks) is a 13-year-old whose recent flunking of the eighth grade is the least of his worries. His mom (Jennifer Hudson) is a drug addict who gets arrested and taken away, and he’s left to take care of the 9-year-old Pete (Ethan Dizon), a neighbor kid in a similarly sad situation.
Desperate to avoid being put in foster care by child protective services, Mister and Pete struggle to survive on their own in Brooklyn, while working toward Mister’s goal of moving to Beverly Hills to land a TV role. Watch the first trailer after the jump.
