2012 is already shaping up to be the biggest year yet of Adam Brody‘s post-OC career, as the actor books two more high-profile roles. One is Some Girls, a feature adaptation of Neil LaBute‘s recent play about an almost-married man who travels across the country to visit his ex-girlfriends. [Update: The Hollywood Reporter writes that Mad Men helmer Jennifer Getzinger will direct the drama.]

But Brody’s next project will likely be Rob Meltzer‘s Welcome to the Jungle, as that project will shoot next month in Puerto Rico. The story centers around a design firm that goes on retreat to a tropical island, only to become stranded and see Lord of the Flies-style chaos break out. Brody will play the protagonist, who must save his colleagues from a power-hungry leader. Brody’s only one of a rather eclectic cast that also includes Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Kristen Schaal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Brody is currently filming Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s Lovelace, in which he plays porn star Harry Reems opposite Amanda Seyfried’s Linda Lovelace. This year also sees him starring in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress, the indie dramedy Revenge for Jolly!, and last year’s TIFF entry The Oranges.

After the jump, The Comedian fathers Hit Girl.

Matthew Wilder’s Inferno was the Linda Lovelace biopic we heard about first, but it seems like Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman‘s Lovelace is the one that’s moving full speed right now. Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard were cast as the titular porn star and her husband Chuck Traynor in early November, with Sharon Stone signing on to play Lovelace’s mother just a couple of weeks later. Then last month, Wes Bentley, Juno TempleHank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth, Robert Patrick, and James Franco all boarded the picture as well.

Now Demi Moore, Adam Brody, and Eric Roberts have become the latest to join the drama, which is based on Eric Danville‘s book The Complete Linda Lovelace. More details after the jump.

Billed as a “pre-apocalyptic comedy,” Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightly is about to go into production. Though the two leads were announced last month, the rest of the cast for the film – written and directed by Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) – has now been revealed.

It includes Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Adam Brody (The OC),  Rob Corddry (Children’s Hospital), Rob Huebel (Human Giant), Gillian Jacobs (Community), Derek Luke (Antoine Fisher), Melanie Lynskey (Away We Go), T.J. Miller (Cloverfield), Patton Oswalt (Big Fan) and William Petersen (CSI) just to name a few. Wow. Pretty impressive for a first time director. Read more after the jump. Read More »

William Petersen has always been a bit careful about choosing work, and now that he’s gone from CSI, he’s looking at features once more. He’s in Tony Kaye’s Detachment now, but that’s his first feature since 2000. Now he is negotiating to join Seeking a Friend at the End of the World, which already had the odd pairing of Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. Along with him come Adam Brody and Rob Corddry.

Lorene Scafaria (writer, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) wrote and will direct; the story picks up when an asteroid threatens to end life on Earth. The main character is “a man whose wife leaves him amidst the ensuing panic, prompting him to seek out his high school sweetheart, who yearns to be with him when doomsday arrives. Knightley plays the female lead, a neighbor of Carell’s character who accompanies him on a romantic road trip to find her.” We don’t know the roles that Adam Brody and Rob Corddry will play. Rosanna Arquette is about to make her first dramatic feature, Hemlock Drive, after making a couple of documentaries. The film is “about an eccentric mother in Connecticut who learns she is dying and brings her three adult children back home for a weekend.” Part of the plot involves the matriarch getting her kids to throw a living funeral, Get Low style, although it sounds like this is meant to be a bit more funny than the climactic scene in that movie.

Now Susan Sarandon is in talks to play the main character, with Adam Brody in talks for one of her kids, and David Arquette negotiating a role as a nearby bar owner. The film, written by Jennifer Carta and Mandy Steckelberg, will shoot in Louisiana in September. [The Wrap]

After the break, Julia Stiles and three more join an indie adaptation of a play, and Justin Long is one of several new additions to an indie with an unfortunate name. Read More »

When we first heard about Damsels in Distress, the first film from director Whit Stillman in many years, it was described as a super-low budget indie with no stars. Then, not long ago, Greta Gerwig revealed that she had joined the cast. Not a star, but hardly an unknown. Now Adam Brody has signed on, and we’ve learned the film is backed by Castle Rock. Oh, how things change. Read More »
