Over a year and a half ago, the world got its first glimpse at a shockingly emaciated Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who’d dropped nearly 60 pounds to play the lead role in a project called All Things Fall Apart. (Originally called just Things Fall Apart.) When the finished feature finally comes to DVD and Blu-ray next month, we’ll finally get to see what all the trouble was for.
Directed by Mario Van Peebles from a screenplay by Jackson and Brian A. Miller, the drama stars Jackson as a college football player who’s on the verge of joining the NFL when he’s sticken with cancer. We got an early peek at the film in the form of a sales trailer that hit around its little-noticed Miami Film Festival premiere last spring, but now that Image Entertainment is on board we finally have an official trailer as well. Take a look after the jump.

Joel Schumacher has confirmed in an interview that Halle Berry is in talks to take the lead in the tentatively titled The Hive, about “a female emergency line operator who, in trying to help a young girl, comes up against a killer from her own past.” While nothing is official at this point, the director said, he and Berry are both interested in working together and the producers of The Hive seem to be on board with hiring her.
The thriller is expected to begin shooting in February, though Schumacher has said that he may shoot another, smaller film before that. Berry will next appear in Garry Marshall’s limp-looking ensemble romcom New Year’s Eve, and is currently shooting Cloud Atlas with directors Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski, and Lana Wachowski. After the jump, surfing biopic Mavericks gets a new title and two new stars, and 50 Cent lines up yet another acting gig.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson hasn’t exactly blown anyone away with his acting chops, but the guy who once got shot 9 (or was it 3? Either way) times and lived to tale the tale isn’t about to get scared off by a couple of negative reviews. He’s already got three films lined up for next year, and he’s just landed one more: Frozen Ground.
Written and directed by Scott Walker, the film is based on the true story of Alaskan serial killer Robert Hansen, who murdered at least 17 victims over the course of twelve years. Jackson will be playing an ’80s-era pimp, which producer Randall Emmett describes as a “substantial role.” He joins a cast that already includes John Cusack as Hansen, Nicolas Cage as a state trooper, and Vanessa Hudgens as the escaped victim who helps catch Hansen. Frozen Ground will begin shooting in Anchorage next month. [The Playlist]
After the jump, a WWE champ and a Breaking Bad star join Channing Tatum’s stripper movie, and The Last Exorcism star Ashley Bell lands two new roles, only one of which is a sequel to The Last Exorcism.

Topher Grace has joined the cast of Gently Down the Stream, which already has some prominent actors on board: Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried. Justin Zackham wrote and will direct the story of a slightly awkward family romance. Specifically, De Niro and Keaton are a couple and father to Topher Grace’s character. But he’s also got an adopted brother, and that guy has a sister, and Topher Grace falls for her. Oops. [Deadline]

Last year Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson took the low road to being taken seriously as an actor. No, not acting! That would be taking the high road. He lost a hell of a lot of weight and shaved his head to play a college football player stricken by cancer. The movie is Things Fall Apart, directed by and c0-starring Mario Van Peebles. Now there is an ‘unofficial’ trailer for the film, which looks like no more than a rough sales trailer. But even the best trailer ever cut might not be able to make this look like anything but an unintentional howler. Read More »

Meryl Streep is making another movie with her The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel: Great Hope Springs, in which a couple enlists a therapist to save their fading 31-year marriage. Meryl Streep is one half of the couple, with the actors playing her husband yet to be announced.
Now it looks like Steve Carrell will be the therapist. We don’t know the tone of the film, but this casting certainly suggests a fairly comic approach. On the surface it seems like this is a role that would be great for Mr. Carrell, especially with Meryl Streep to play against. While the basics don’t sound outrageously appealing, the notion of those two verbally sparring definitely does. [Deadline]
After the break, Chloe Moretz gets company in Hick and 50 Cent becomes a cop. Read More »

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson continues to evolve as a potential, if highly unlikely leading man. He’s doing this in part by continuing a partnership with Bruce Willis, with whom he’s producing the film Catch .44. And now Mr. Willis and Paul Walker are in talks to join 50 Cent in the heist action film Set Up, which is being shopped to foreign distributors. Read More »
