The French Canadian director has just released his newest creation, a stop-motion animated action figure short titled “Black Widow Gone Wild.” The short takes an action figure of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and pits her against some of movies biggest stars, Whiplash, the t1000, Rocky, Michael Jackson, Superman, Batman, Jack Bauer, Predator and Spider-Man. 24 ended a long run on television last year, but for the past few months there has been persistent word that the characters might hit the big screen in a 24 movie. Last we heard, however, the script by Billy Ray had been rejected, leaving us uncertain about whether the movie was dead or not. Kiefer Sutherland certainly doesn’t think it is dead, however. He says the script is actively being worked on, and hopes to be shooting by this time next year. Read More »

Am I the only one who misses 24? I long for the days where Kiefer Sutherland’s raspy voice would yell at me from my TV screen on a weekly basis. I miss Jack Bauer’s unquestioning, “JUST GET IT DONE” mentality, ACLU be damned. I miss a show that tried, every week, to give us a thrill while trying to adhere to the brutal strictures of a real-time format. I miss the unending series of broken relationships and destroyed lives that were left in Bauer’s wake, serving as a constant reminder that the costs of serving one’s country can be high, and that maybe my life isn’t so bad after all.
Anyway, enough of my reminiscing. According to a recent interview with 24 executive producer Howard Gordon, Bauer was supposed to meet a different end than the one that befell him in the series finale. We’ve got a great deal of TV odds and ends to present to you, so let’s kick off with one that is a big deal to those involved: Syfy has decided not to pick up Stargate Universe for a third season, which is a nice way of saying the show is canceled.
A Stargate show has been on the air since 1997, but the numbers for the first season of Universe were low — Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, in their best days, had twice the draw of Universe. The final episodes of the show will air as planned. [Variety]

Sure, this season of 24 wasn’t perfect. Katie Sackhoff’s Dana felt like this year’s Kim Bauer, in the sense that her storyline became increasingly nonsensical and useless as time went on. Also, the show didn’t make nearly as good use of its location as last season did with Washington D.C. (mostly because the New York backgrounds always looked like they were done using CGI). But it did manage to show us one thing we’d never seen before: A completely unhinged, unstable, unpredictable, rampaging Jack Bauer. For that we can be all be grateful, right?
Tonight saw the series finale of a show that’s been with us for eight seasons. Since 2001, Jack Bauer has been torturing crucial information out of shady individuals, gunning down evil terrorists, and both saving and imperiling innocent civilians, all for the greater good. Despite all its flaws and its predictability, I am going to miss this show.
