Now that we’re into the year 2017, shows are coming back from their midseason hiatus to finish out the rest of their season. In addition, there are some new shows arriving on TV for the first time. And following their panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour this week, FOX has released some new trailers for the shows coming to their network over the next few months.
24: Legacy resets the clock with Corey Hawkins as the new lead of a series set in the universe of the original starring Kiefer Sutherland (though he won’t be back as Jack Bauer for now). Prison Break is also making a comeback with the return of Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.
Outside of the returning shows, FOX also has two new crime dramas. APB follows a police precinct in Chicago taken over by a billionaire in an effort to fight crime properly, reduce corruption and create an efficient private police force. Then there’s Shots Fired, a 10-part event series that takes a look at the broken criminal justice system.

When the final clock ticked away on 24: Live Another Day, I don’t think anybody believed that was the end of the 24 saga. Now the producers have created a new 24 series to begin a new day of real-time action with new characters in the world of CTU. Corey Hawkins plays Eric Carter, an Army Ranger on the run who turns to an old, retired CTU head (Miranda Otto), dragging her back into the fray too.
At an early screening of the first hour of 24: Legacy, we spoke with Howard Gordon, one of the original executive producers of 24. Some spoilers from the pilot follow, so if you don’t want to know about classic 24 characters who are referenced or what hour begins the day, here is your spoiler warning. Read More »

24 has been remarkably consistent over the years. Even when they switched to 12 episodes, the machinations that keep the real time going are a well-oiled machine. With 24: Legacy, it feels good to be back in a familiar zone but see all the new directions this story could take.
It is just after noon when Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) springs into action, defending himself and his wife Nicole (Anna Diop) from killers who come to their home in Arlington, VA. Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto) makes one last trip to CTU after she’s left the agency, and gets roped back in when Eric needs her help. Meanwhile, Rebecca’s husband John Donovan (Jimmy Smits) is beginning a day of campaigning for President in D.C. Read More »

Even though Kiefer Sutherland disappointed fans by shooting down any plans to have Jack Bauer pop up at some point in 24: Legacy, that doesn’t mean other surviving characters from the original series run of 24 can’t return. We’ve already heard that there’s the possibility of Mary Lynn Rajskub returning as Chloe O’Brian, but now we have definitive news on the return of a veteran character from the show, one with a history spanning all the way back to the first season That character is Tony Almeida. The folks behind 24: Legacy have made one thing clear about the series: it’s not a reboot, it’s an expansion. The consensus after 24: Live Another Day was that Jack Bauer’s story was, at least for now, over, and it was time to move on and find a new hero. That new hero is Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins), an ex-Army Ranger whose past comes back to haunt him. We did hear it was a possibility to see more of Jack Bauer, although the actor wasn’t confident about that, but will fans ever see Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) return? There’s a good chance they might, according to 24: Legacy executive producer Evan Katz.
Below, read what Katz had to say about having Chloe in 24 Legacy.

Not too long ago, 24 producer Howard Gordon floated the possibility of Kiefer Sutherland reprising his role as Jack Bauer on the forthcoming Fox sequel series 24: Legacy. The series follows Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins as Eric Carter, a former Army Ranger who finds himself pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him. But the series takes place in a world where Jack Bauer exists and is still alive. However, Kiefer Sutherland himself has just cast some serious doubt on Jack Bauer ever coming back. Read More »
24: Legacy won’t be on until midseason, but the cast and creators came to Comic-Con to get the fans excited early. Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) plays the new hero Eric Carter, joined by Miranda Otto and Jimmy Smits in the cast. We interviewed the creators of 24: Legacy, Manny Coto, Evan Katz and Howard Gordon, all the creators of the original 24, in a roundtable where they shared a surprising inspiration for the new story.
“It was suggested by events leading to the shooting of Osama bin Laden,” Coto said. “What we had read about was the soldiers who had actually done it, having done this wonderful heroic thing for the country, many of them had to go into hiding. The FBI told one of them when he asked, ‘What do I do for a living?’ ‘We can get you a job as a truck driver.’ It was fascinating that idea, that nugget, the idea that these great heroes would have to go into hiding and take menial jobs. That became a spark for such a character, part of a team that killed a very notorious terrorist, a fictionalized version, now is living his life, trying to get his life back together. Now one by one the members of the squad are being killed. He realizes someone has given up our names and I’m next.” Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Kiefer Sutherland‘s Jack Bauer walked (and continues to walk) a very fine line in American popular culture. The lead character of Fox’s 24 meant many things to many people and personal politics often played a huge role in how you viewed the behavior of one of television’s most brutal antiheroes. For some, he was the hero America needed in a post-9/11 world, a man who would stop at nothing to get the job done and did would no one else was willing to do. For others, he was a monster, a walking, shooting amalgamation of America’s most terrifying flaws. The politically diverse writing staff of the show ensured that both views were often supported, which meant that 24 caused its fair share of Thanksgiving family fights.
24 as we knew it is over, although the upcoming reboot 24: Legacy is on the way. Jack Bauer won’t be on the show (at least not yet), but if Sutherland had his way, he wouldn’t even be capable of showing up. He’d be dead.

In January of next year, the midseason brings the debut of 24: Legacy, the series reboot of FOX’s action adventure series that once starred Kiefer Sutherland as Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer. The original iteration of the series was revealed to be over in 2010 with eyes set on a feature film adaptation, though that never came to fruition. But three years later, Jack Bauer returned to TV for the event series revival 24: Live Another Day, which turned out to be his last outing as the rogue hero. Or was it?
While speaking at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, TX, executive producer Howard Gordon said that he thinks Jack Bauer still has some life in him, and there’s a chance he could even appear at some point in 24: Legacy. Find out more about a possible Kiefer Sutherland 24 Legacy appearance below. Read More »
