Power Rangers short film

UPDATE: The copyright debate over Power/Rangers has been settled and the film is back on YouTube and Vimeo. Click there to see both. Original story follows with the update after.

One of the biggest movie stories this week was the release of Power/Rangers, a professionally made, R-rated fan film based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Directed by Joseph Kahn (Torque) and produced by Adi Shankar (Dredd), the Power Rangers short film put a dark, kinetic spin on the ’90s cartoon. Fans seemed to enjoy it but two groups who didn’t like the short were Saban Brands, the company who owns the Rangers, and members of the original cast.

Below, read about the copyright claim, the reactions of the original Rangers and find out how you can watch the Power Rangers short film now. Read More »

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? This week we catch up with the other Neistat brother, get Hasidic and cheat on our husband, get homeschooled, wonder out loud just who or what in the hell Rooster Teeth is, and spend some time with the cinematic arm of the Nazi Party.

Game of Thrones season 5 poster

A new Game of Thrones season 5 poster is out, along with a couple of new clips. The poster is striking, because it features Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) standing on the prow of a ship, staring up at one of Daenerys’ dragons. And the clips are solid, because one features the hint of a little conversational conflict, while the other marks the return of fan-favorite character Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie). See it all below. Read More »

Tom Ellis Cast as ‘Lucifer’ in Fox Series

Lucifer series lead

Fox has a new DC Comics-based series in development, but it’s something very different from the Batman origin story Gotham. Lucifer is based, perhaps loosely, upon the vision of the fallen angel originally seen in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series, and will follow the Morningstar to Los Angeles, where he helps cops solve crimes. (Seriously.) Now Tom Ellis (Rush) is the Lucifer series lead, and will head to LA for the Fox series. Read More »

Jason Momoa Aquaman header

Last week’s late-night reveal of Jason Momoa as Aquaman was a shock to many people, including the actor himself. In a new interview, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice co-star admits that he didn’t think director Zack Snyder was going to reveal his in-costume photo so soon and didn’t find out until right before it went up.

Momoa also discussed his excitement at playing the role and danced around questions about when we’d actually see the character, how much he’s shot, and if he’d already been teased in Man of Steel. Read the latest Jason Momoa Aquaman quotes below. Read More »
