'Split' Honest Trailer: M. Night Shyamalan Is Actually Kinda Good Again

Though January is usually a dumping ground for movies that either aren't good enough to be Oscar contenders or have no business coming out during spring and summer, director M. Night Shyamalan delivered quite a surprise to those who had given up on the man who brought us The Happening, The Last Airbender and After Earth.

Split returned M. Night Shyamalan to his roots in more ways than one with a thriller that was not only suspenseful and interesting, but it had one hell of a twist that absolutely no one saw coming. We won't spoil what that is until after the jump though. You've been warned.

Watch the Split Honest Trailer below.

M. Night Shyamalan had already shown that he might back back up his sleeve with the surprisingly decent thriller The Visit, even though it didn't completely feel like the kind of movie he's made before. But with Split, Shyamalan was back to making the kind of thrillers that made him a recognizable name in Hollywood. It comes with some of the trademark shortcomings that Shyamalan brings to some of his movies, including his distracting cameos, but since it also comes with one of the coolest twists ever, we'll let it slide.

The fact that Split is a secret sequel to Unbreakable is mind-blowing. Hopefully once The Horde (the nickname given to James McAvoy's multiple personality character) ends up crossing David Dunn (Bruce Willis) we'll get to see some of those personalities which went unrevealed in Split come to the surface. As for when we might see this confrontation, Split 2 is supposed to be Shyamalan's next film, so we may not have to wait long.
