Jose Padilha‘s remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 cult classic RoboCop has just added another significant piece to the puzzle. Over the weekend, Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Safe House) signed on to play the lead character and now the film – which is being produced by MGM – has been picked up for distribution by Sony Pictures.
Deadline broke this news, which makes a lot of sense as Sony is handling other upcoming MGM projects like 21 Jump Street, Skyfall and recently The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Zookeeper.
With this massive company now on board, expect things to happen quickly in the coming weeks, such as a release date and additional casting.
Can you believe there’s a Robocop remake actually being made?
