Some sequels are happening, others might not, and there’s even one you can potentially be a part of in this edition of Sequel Bits. After the jump read about the following.
- Producer Frank Marshall thinks Jurassic Park IV will be in theaters by 2014.
- A fifth Bourne film would definitely follow Jeremy Renner‘s character.
- Join the cast of The Expendables 2 with a new iPhone app.
- Ben Stiller seems pessimistic about Zoolander 2.
In an interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall (Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Bourne) said Jurassic Park IV would likely be in theaters by 2014:
I would say that it will be on the screen within two years.
He also said a lot of what’s planned takes into account advances in special effects since we last left the series. The latest news on the film is that Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, writers of the new Planet of the Apes series, are on board writing the script and Steven Spielberg won’t direct. This release window is encouraging and likely would have to be put in place soon, as several big 2014 releases are already staking release dates.
Marshall also commented on a possible sequel to another franchise he produces: the Bourne series. The Bourne Legacy is out in a few weeks starring a new action star, Jeremy Renner. While rumors recently flew saying that a fifth film would see Renner’s character team up with Matt Damon‘s original Bourne, Marshall stepped back from that statement, leaving the option open but not saying that such a team-up is definite. Here’s his quote from Coming Soon:
We’re gonna follow Jeremy’s character. Everything else is wide open. That’s the great thing about this now. The table is set to go any direction we want to. But we will, I’m sure, follow Jeremy and see what happens. Jeremy and Rachel [Weisz].
The Expendables 2, meanwhile, already has an insane cast: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris just to name a few. Now, with the latest iPhone app called The Expendables Infinite Trailer App, you can add yourself to the mix. Put yourself in a trailer, add new special effects over your own videos, it’s good times. Finally, speaking to Collider, Ben Stiller said Zoolander 2 is something they’d love to have come together in the future, but the script and everything just hasn’t come together yet. Watch the video below.
