More Rumors Emerge About How 'Alien' Xenomorphs Factor Into 'Prometheus'

And the rumors keep coming about Ridley Scott's new film, Prometheus. It was originally announced as a prequel to the director's masterpiece Alien, then said to be a totally seperate endeavor. But comments from actor Michael Fassbender and a few spy reports say that there is a definite connection to Alien, though Prometheus will approach some of the aliens a bit differently.

There's a slight bit of extra info available now, though to those who have been fans of the Alien films for some time this will be more of a confirmation than a revelation.

Brendon at Bleeding Cool writes,

Remember how the alien took on canine qualities after gestating in a dog? You may even suppose that the first film's alien was so recognisably humanoid because it had grown in a human. The same applies here: generation by generation, the creature mutates. As Prometheus begins, the xenomorph is not too recognisable. Sure, it has that alien DNA that Scott and Fassbender teasingly referred to, but it's missing... well, it's missing human DNA. Or dog DNA.

All you have to do is imagine how it might look if it were to mix DNA with another alien species... and I think we're starting to work it all out.

It was established long ago that the final shape of the adult xenomorph is based upon the DNA of the host body. Early drafts for Alien sequels included, in addition to the dog-like alien in Alien 3, xenomorphs that bore striking resemblances to other animals. (Google the early '90s series of Alien action figures  to see some of those designs.)

And, of course, the dead Space Jockey in Alien, complete with blown-open chest, suggests that there was once a xenomorph running around that looked quite a bit like that big fellow. Naturally, when the Alien prequel was first announced, that was what many of us expected to see.

Brendon says that the settings of the film includes a planet that has been terraformed to breed the "perfect biological weapon." (We've essentially seen this before, too.) In this case, is the xenomorph the weapon? We don't know.

One other thing: Brendon asked his sources if the title will really be Prometheus. The answer: "Maybe not. Though they're calling it that for a reason."
