It is well-established that low-budget supernatural films do well, and jokey low-budget party movies also do well. So why not combine the two?
This year’s Slamdance festival saw the premiere of Ghost Team One, a film that is being positioned as a sort of “Paranormal Activity meets Project X” combo. We saw a trailer back in January, which was effectively a red-band look that emphasized the film’s weirdness. Now that Paramount is getting ready to release the film, in October, there’s a new look at the movie. This one really emphasizes the “party” aspect, with a bit of supernatural activity thrown in.
That trailer sidesteps some of the weirdness in favor of putting across an image of the film that is basically “nerds recruit hot girl, and wackiness ensues.” Which, all things considered, is probably an OK sales tactic for this sort of thing. I’d rather see more of the weird stuff, though — the other aspects are generally a dime a dozen.
Ghost Team One opens on October 11. Trailer via Apple.
When roommates Brad and Sergio accidentally arouse the dead, they team up with sexy amateur ghost hunter, Fernanda, to expose the evil inside their home. But just as the guys start to get close to their hot new partner, they discover that a horny demon wants in on the action. Now, cameras are up, and more than fear is rising in this outrageous romp where only one thing is certain: someone is gonna get screwed.
