Okay, the headline of this post may be a tad misleading. Only one of the two videos we have is an actual ad for The Muppets movie; the other’s just a delightful commercial for Wonderful Pistachios featuring a Muppet. But both fit the characters to a T. Miss Piggy takes on the glamorous job of working the Emmy red carpet, Statler and Waldorf get sassy about the film they’re in, and Kermit snacks on some bright green pistachios. And the TV spot for the movie actually contains some interesting new footage. Watch both videos after the jump.
First, here’s Kermit trying to convince you to eat Wonderful brand pistachios:
A lot of the time, I find that non-movie commercials that try to tie in to an upcoming film can feel forced or just plain obnoxious. In this case, though, Kermit and pistachios seem like such an obvious combination that I don’t mind one bit.
Next, we’ve got a new TV spot for The Muppets:

Oh, Statler and Waldorf, you delightful curmudgeons. Never change. I’m not clear on what’s going in with the scenes of Jason Segel and Amy Adams looking all glowy, though. Did I miss something?
Directed by James Bobin and starring Segel, Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, and (obviously) a bunch of Muppets, The Muppets hits theaters November 23, 2011. Read our past coverage of the movie, including photos, trailers, and detailed plot and character descriptions, here.
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
