Jon M. Chu Hopes Dolph Lundgren Will Cameo In 'Masters Of The Universe'

In just over a week Jon M. Chu will finally see his delayed G.I. Joe: Retaliation open in theaters, which means he can truly move on to his next project. That is looking like it could be Masters of the Universe, based on the line of toys and accompanying advertisement cartoon series. Another film was once made based on the property, with Dolph Lundren starring as the alien warrior prince He-Man.

Naturally, despite the fact that no one really liked that version of Masters of the Universe when it was released, and few people like it now for anything other than a dose of kitsch, people are asking about the idea of Lundgren appearing in the new film. And because this is Hollywood, that could be enough to make it happen.

Chu was asked about the idea of Lundgren making a cameo in the new film, and told Getty Images Entertainment,

I don't know if Dolph Lundgren is around or what he's doing but, yeah, I think that could be some fun if we could find a way. I hope he still has the loin cloth and the long hair and everything.

Meanwhile, Lundren was asked more or less the same question last year, and he didn't seem all that excited about the idea:

Here's the thing about quotes like this: they're based on leading or loaded questions that don't leave any real way out. Some filmmakers would just say "no, that's not what we're after," but most people, in the spirit of Hollywood, will play along.

And this sort of question also has a way of making the idea come true. Lundgren may not really want it, and Chu may not really want it, but when this sort of thing crops up often enough people start talking, and suddenly Lundgren is on set for a day in a wig and no one really knows how it happened, except that various people in the chain of command thought it would be a good idea.
