The Ten Highest Grossing Actors Of 2014

Adam Sandler may be hideously overpaid, but there are still a few actors in Hollywood who are very good at making money. The list of 2014's highest-grossing actors is proof of that. Four big names raked in $1 billion or more at the global box office this year, and one of those will probably continue to cash in in early 2015. Hit the jump to see the highest grossing actors of 2014.

Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle

1. Jennifer Lawrence ($1.4 billion; X-Men: Days of Future PastThe Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1)

(* Figures from Wahlberg's Christmas release The Gambler were not included.)

The real winner of this list is Fox's X-Men franchise. Four of its stars made the top 10 list, including Jennifer Lawrence at #1. Or maybe it's the superhero genre as a whole. Mark Wahlberg and Angelina Jolie are the only ones who made the top 10 without starring in a Marvel-based property.

Maybe the biggest surprise is how high Emma Stone is ranked. Amazing Spider-Man 2 grossed less than X-Men: Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Captain America: The Winter Soldier did, but her number was bolstered by the successes of Birdman and Magic in the Moonlight. It's also nice to see Scarlett Johansson sitting at #3 partly on the strength of original pics like Under the Skin and Lucy.

Of the stars listed above, Lawrence looks likely to repeat next year on the strength of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 alone, though David O. Russell's Joy will probably earn a decent chunk of change as well. Johansson and Chris Evans may be back for Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Pratt could return if Jurassic World does as well as hoped.

Forbes only counted movies in which these actors were leads or co-leads, but the list would look a lot different if they included all appearances including cameos. We know this because Screen Crush did just that earlier this month, and came up with a ranking that included Lawrence at #9 and Pratt at #11. But even there, Marvel came out on top. By the site's count, Stan Lee was the highest grossing star of 2014, with cameos in four Marvel adaptations released this year.
