'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Theme Park Ride May Feature Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster

Jeff Goldblum's first official appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, but fans who stuck around for the after-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 may have noticed a tiny cameo by the Grandmaster, brother of Benicio del Toro's The Collector a character who played a key role the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

So news that Grandmaster may make an appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! theme park attraction is surprising, but not unexpected.

Kevin Feige teased to CinemaBlend that Goldblum's cameo in the credits for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could be a sign of things to come in the upcoming theme park attraction, which is opening at the Disney California Adventure park later this month:

"We had footage of just Goldblum dancing and thought it would be fun to put it in there. And as you know from the comics, he's The Collector's brother. Keep an eye out at a particular theme park attraction opening soon, you'll get to see a little crossover... It's just a fun thing."

The Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout! opens on May 27 and repurposes the Tower of Terror attraction with a completely new story and theme, taking riders through the Collector's fortress to help Rocket free the rest of the Guardians, who have been captured and trapped in the Collector's "weird freak show."

The ride will feature several actors from the films, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Benicio del Toro, and Pom Klementieff. The video footage involving the movie cast was directed by James Gunn.

Feige told CinemaBlend that the Goldblum's Grandmaster cameo which was really more of a blink-and-you'll-miss-Goldblum's-floating-head was just from extra footage they had of Goldblum dancing. But small nod to the MCU's larger universe aside, Goldblum has more of a connection to the Guardians than just a shared passion for wacky space fashion and dance moves. The Grandmaster is the brother of the Collector and the two share some proclivities – the Grandmaster likes to capture beings from across the universe and pit them in deadly games against each other.

And if should be noted that the Collector's fortress may very well be located on the planet Sakaar, the place the Grandmaster calls home. That would certainly make it easy for these characters to cross paths. Hmm. Hmm...

The Collector didn't appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.  2, though he did make a own cameo at the end credits of Thor: The Dark World. Perhaps there will be a meeting of worlds between the Grandmaster and the Collector, as the siblings spar over their various alien collectibles. Or maybe we'll only get to see del Toro and Goldblum meet in yet another after-credits scene.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! opens at the Disneyland resort on May 27, 2017. You can see Goldblum on screen in Thor: Ragnarok in theaters November 3, 2017.
