Even here on Slashfilm, the ease of shooting video has made things more visual. Interviews are regularly being shot with our iPhones instead of simply recording and transcribing because the visual element, hopefully, makes you feel like you’re part of the conversation. YouTube sees this immersion going even further, though, as they’ve begun to roll out an option that’ll turn any video uploaded in 1080p into 3D. One click, pop on some glasses, and you can see any 1080p YouTube video in 3D. How does this work and what does it look like? Read more after the jump. Read More »

For TV fans, next week begins one of the most exciting events of the year: PaleyFest. It’s a two-week festival in Los Angeles where the casts and crews of some of TV’s most successful shows hold in-depth discussions and Q&A’s about where their shows have been and are going. This year ,the featured shows are American Horror Story, Community, Once Upon A Time, New Girl, The Office, Sons of Anarchy, Bones, Castle, The Vampire Diaries, Revenge, Two and a Half Men, Mad Men and Modern Family.
And though not everyone can be in person to see these events, this year PaleyFest has partnered with Hulu to stream them after the fact. Starting March 15, several (but not all) of the panels will be online for your viewing pleasure. After the jump, find out which will be available as well as which artists are doing this year’s posters. Read More »

Do you ever get frustrated that certain movies don’t make it to your local theater or that you can’t see old favorites on the big screen? There is a new service that might let you change that. It’s called Tugg and it’s a social network that allows users to request, promote and eventually screen a film they want (current, classic, mainstream or independent movies) shown in a local theater.
The site is currently in beta but they already have deals in place with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, AMC Theatres, Bow Tie Cinemas, Cinemark Theatres, Goodrich Quality Cinemas, Rave Cinemas and Regal Cinemas to make sure the screenings actually happen in quality venues. One of the most significant advances in the entertainment industry last year was the exponential boom of streaming content. Netflix in particular, originally a disc rental service, was at the forefront of focusing all attention on that front by increasing their catalogs, adding original content and charging more for it all. On a seemingly daily basis, more people are deciding they want to consume content via streaming and several companies are competing for the best product.
Right now, Netflix Instant’s bread and butter is television. They have multiple seasons, or in some case the entirety, of shows like The Wonder Years, Arrested Development, Breaking Bad and Mad Men. However, the one blazing, glaring omission from their impressive collection are the hugely popular shows from HBO.
Shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Sex and the City or Entourage are not available to stream anywhere besides HBO’s latest project, HBO Go. The only way to watch those shows on Netflix is to rent the discs themselves and now reports are that HBO won’t sell Netflix any more copies. What exactly does this mean? Read more after the jump. I purchase and watch a lot of streaming content, tv shows and movies, be it on Netflix, AppleTV and iPad (which I use at the gym and while traveling). This week, ABC launched a promotion allowing users to download all 9-episodes of Pan-Am for free. The move is a desperate last chance attempt to drive interest in the series, which is on the edge of cancellation. Will it work? I’m not sure — it could be too late. But it is a smart move and it got me thinking. Why don’t networks offer the first episode of every television series for free?
