Untitled Next Bourne Chapter

Up until now, Bourne 5 has been almost as big a mystery as its amnesiac hero. We’ve known it would feature the return of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, as well as the return of Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass to the director’s chair, but not it would look like, or what the plot would be, or even what it would be called.

But that all changed during Super Bowl 50. Universal unveiled the first look at the next chapter in the Bourne series, and even gave it a brand-new title: Jason Bourne. Watch the Jason Bourne Super Bowl spot after the jump.  Read More »

batman v superman scoot mcnairy character

We’ve heard that Warner Bros. didn’t actually buy any airtime during Super Bowl 50, but that doesn’t mean Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was left on the sidelines during Super Bowl Sunday’s big ad bonanza. Thanks to partner Turkish Airlines, they managed to drop not one, but two promos today, and pretty clever ones at that.

The Batman v Superman Turkish Airlines spots take the form of tourism ads for the twin cities of Metropolis and Gotham, spotlighting local celebrities Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Watch ’em both after the jump.  Read More »

The Jungle Book poster #3

It’s been nearly half a century since The Jungle Book hit theaters, and Disney figures that means it’s time for an upgrade. This spring brings Jon Favreau‘s new “live-action” version of Rudyard Kipling‘s classic story about a “man-cub” raised by a family of wolves.

“Live-action” is in quotes there because much of the movie is actually CG — cutting-edge, shockingly realistic CG that looks almost indistinguishable from real life, at least in the footage we’ve seen so far. Behind these CG animals will be an all-star voice cast including Idris ElbaScarlett JohanssonBen KingsleyChristopher Walken, and Bill Murray. The one character who’s definitely not a special effect will be the boy Mowgli, played by newcomer Neel Sethi.

Disney’s clearly got huge hopes for this one, and they’ve given it a cushy Super Bowl spot to tease the spectacle. Watch The Jungle Book Super Bowl spot after the jump. Read More »

’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Super Bowl Spot: Hear It Roar

10 Cloverfield Lane

Last month, Bad Robot cracked open a mystery box we didn’t even know existed. The first teaser trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane would’ve looked promising under any circumstance, what with its vaguely creepy premise and stellar cast (John GoodmanMary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr.). But the title added an extra layer of intrigue. Was this the Cloverfield sequel fans had been waiting for? If not, what connection, if any, could the new film have to Cloverfield?

We’ll have our answers sooner rather than later, as 10 Cloverfield Lane is scheduled to hit theaters in a little over a month. But in the meantime, Paramount devoted some (very expensive) time during the Super Bowl to give curious audiences some more material to mull over. Deadpool red-band trailer

There’s just under a week to go until Deadpool hits theaters, and that’s enough time for one last, big marketing push from 20th Century Fox. Star Ryan Reynolds and his colleagues were reportedly all over the Bay Area this weekend, handing out chimichangas and taking over a local bar, and their big weekend culminated today in an appropriately irreverent Deadpool Super Bowl spot. The big game may be sacred territory for much of America, but nothing is off-limits for the Merc with a Mouth. Check it out after the jump.  Read More »

civilwar-cap-shield-hall

The Super Bowl has its charms, but with all due respect to the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos, it’s got nothing on the epic showdown coming in Captain America: Civil War. The movie pits Avengers teammates Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) against each other in a battle that threatens to tear apart the MCU’s entire population of superheroes — including new additions like Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

A new Super Bowl spot digs a little deeper into the superhero-vs.-superhero feud, teasing some of the major action and drama to come. Watch the Captain America: Civil War Super Bowl spot after the jump.  Read More »

Gods of Egypt Super Bowl Spot

If Gerard Butler screaming as a power-hungry god along with tons of crazy creatures flying around and destroying things doesn’t get you interested in Alex Proyas‘ action epic, then nothing will. Lionsgate has just debuted a 60-second Super Bowl spot for Gods of Egypt, attempting to get the crowd that loves both football and 300 on board this positively insane looking movie. There’s a good chance it just might work. Watch the Gods of Egypt Super Bowl spot after the jump. Read More »

Eddie the Eagle Super Bowl Spot

Which Movies Will Have Ads at the Super Bowl?

THE JUNGLE BOOK

The Super Bowl has to be the only television broadcast of the year where the ads are almost as eagerly hyped as the event itself. Even those who don’t know a touchdown from a tackle often tune in for the commercials, and with good reason: companies spend millions just staking out ad space during the game, and millions more to produce some of the slickest, funniest, weirdest, and generally most attention-grabby spots you’ll see all year.

That includes the major movie studios, which annually seize the event to pitch their biggest pictures to millions and millions of viewers. So which movie Super Bowl commercials can we expect to see this Sunday? Find out after the jump.

UPDATE: Since we first published this story, both Captain America: Civil War and Eddie the Eagle have teased Super Bowl spots. Read More »

Bryan Cranston Super Bowl Commercial

Between the drama of the game itself, the cool movie spots, and a bevy of controversial and/or sad commercials, there was plenty to talk about during the Super Bowl. One of the most surprising moments, however, happened when Bryan Cranston reprised his multiple award-winning role as teacher-turned-meth dealer Walter White from Breaking Bad. He did so for an Esurance commercial that’s got that creepy Breaking Bad vibe, but also lots of humor and inside jokes. Watch the Bryan Cranston Breaking Bad Super Bowl commercial, in both the regular and extended lengths, below. Read More »
