jack reacher never go back poster

A widely released action movie starring Tom Cruise shouldn’t need people rushing to its defense, but I’ve spent the past four years sticking up for Jack Reacher. Christopher McQuarrie’s cinematic take on Lee Child‘s long-running series of novels about a homeless military police veteran who wanders the country solving problems with both his keen wits and his fists is nothing short of fantastic, an old-school, small-scale thriller that feels like it was made for, well, adults. The action is rough and intimate. The central mystery thoroughly engaging. The characters are rich and often very funny. It even features a brilliantly staged, low-key car chase that puts the bombast of most modern blockbusters to shame. Jack Reacher is the real deal.

As we approach the October release date of the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, I find myself equally excited and trepidatious in equal measure. Cruise is back, but McQuarrie is not, with Edward Zwick now sitting in the director’s chair. Zwick has made good movies and bad movies, but he’s a solid journeyman when paired with the right material. Is a Jack Reacher sequel the right material? Can a new poster and extended TV spot answer that question?

Moana TV Spot

Since all eyes are on the Olympics, you can expect plenty of new teasers for forthcoming movies to arrive on television so studios an reach the biggest possible audience. There’s a new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story coming this week, and this weekend also brings a new glimpse of Walt Disney Animations Studios’ latest adventure, Moana.

Just a couple weeks ago, we met almost all of the key characters of Moana voiced by Auli‘i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Jemaine Clement, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Alan Tudyk and Nicole Scherzinger. Now we get to meet a character we’ve only seen in concept art, and it’s fiery lava monster, who appears to be some kind of witch that gives our titular character and her new demigod friend Maui some trouble on the sea.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children TV Spot

It’s been a few years since we’ve gotten Tim Burton‘s traditional weirdness on the big screen. The last time the director was at the helm of a film, it was the biographical drama Big Eyes. Before that, Burton delivered a double dose of his signature goofy gothic style with the lackluster Dark Shadows, and the solid stop-motion animated Frankenweenie. Now he’s back to bringing a new band of misfits to theaters with his latest project.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is based on the novel of the same name by Ransom Riggs with a story following a boy named Jake (Asa Butterfield) who discovers a mysterious orphanage populated by kids who have strange powers and abilities. However, as soon as he becomes comfortable in this odd place, he learns it may be in danger from hidden enemies who are hunting these kids for their powers.

Suicide Squad TV Spots

Yesterday, Warner Bros. released an extended promo introducing audiences to Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), “one of the scariest characters in the movie” and the mastermind who puts the Suicide Squad together. One of the leaders of that squad is Deadshot (Will Smith). Smith, who’s probably most famous for playing heroes, stars in David Ayer‘s film as the assassin/supervillain. The newest promo tells you all you need to about the character, including the fact only his friends call him by his real name Floyd.

Below, watch the Suicide Squad extended promo.

star trek beyond marketing

Star Trek Beyond opens in just a few days and a new TV spot has spoiled one of the film’s biggest twists. In other words, you probably shouldn’t watch that new TV spot. I highly recommend not watching that new TV spot. And now Simon Pegg, the co-writer of the film and the man wearing chief engineer Montgomery Scott’s red uniform, has made it clear that you shouldn’t watch this new TV spot. This may have the opposite effect and entice you into actually watching this new TV spot, but hey, at least we’re trying here. At the very least, now you know exactly what you’re getting into here rather than blindly stumbling into a 30 second advertisement that blatantly gives away a third act reveal.

In just a couple days, fans will get to see Star Trek Beyond in theaters. Some will be lucky enough to attend the premiere at Comic-Con on Wednesday night while others can see it if they’re able to check out the Star Trek marathon at AMC Theatres that same day. Otherwise, Thursday night will bring the first nationwide screenings of the movie so we can all see if the early buzz on the sequel is right on the money.

In the meantime, a new Star Trek Beyond TV spot has arrived and it reveals an interesting detail about the villain played by Idris Elba. However, if you’re looking to go into the sequel knowing as little as possible, this could be considered a spoiler, so we’ve saved this reveal for after the jump. Read More »

In under a couple weeks, the premiere of Star Trek Beyond will be happening at San Diego Comic-Con. Ghostbusters TV Spots

We’re a little over a week away from the release of Paul Feig‘s reboot of Ghostbusters, and that mean the onslaught of TV advertisements is in full force. Since I record my TV shows, I don’t usually watch commercials, but in the process of fast-forwarding, I see a Ghostbusters TV spot at least once during every single show that I watch. But some new Ghostbusters TV spots just arrived that I hadn’t seen yet, and one of them reveals a twist on a familiar character unveiled for the first time. Read More »

Pete's Dragon TV Spot

Adding to the barrage of Disney’s remakes, late this summer comes a contemporary take on Pete’s Dragon, the film that blended animation with live-action all the way back in 1977. This looks like a magical update of the old movie from Ain’t Them Bodies Saints director with a performance from young star Oakes Fegley that feels like the kind of child actor that Steven Spielberg would have discovered. But will this movie have the same kind of heart and spirit of adventure of the director’s films? A new Pete’s Dragon TV spot is certainly reassuring, complete with a nice little song to guide us. With exactly one month until the new Ghostbusters hits the big screen, it’s time for the film’s marketing to start hitting the small screen.
