Deadpool red-band trailer

There’s just under a week to go until Deadpool hits theaters, and that’s enough time for one last, big marketing push from 20th Century Fox. Star Ryan Reynolds and his colleagues were reportedly all over the Bay Area this weekend, handing out chimichangas and taking over a local bar, and their big weekend culminated today in an appropriately irreverent Deadpool Super Bowl spot. The big game may be sacred territory for much of America, but nothing is off-limits for the Merc with a Mouth. Check it out after the jump.  Read More »

The Super Bowl has its charms, but with all due respect to the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos, it’s got nothing on the epic showdown coming in Captain America: Civil War. The movie pits Avengers teammates Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) against each other in a battle that threatens to tear apart the MCU’s entire population of superheroes — including new additions like Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

A new Super Bowl spot digs a little deeper into the superhero-vs.-superhero feud, teasing some of the major action and drama to come. Watch the Captain America: Civil War Super Bowl spot after the jump.  Read More »

Gods of Egypt Super Bowl Spot

If Gerard Butler screaming as a power-hungry god along with tons of crazy creatures flying around and destroying things doesn’t get you interested in Alex Proyas‘ action epic, then nothing will. Lionsgate has just debuted a 60-second Super Bowl spot for Gods of Egypt, attempting to get the crowd that loves both football and 300 on board this positively insane looking movie. There’s a good chance it just might work. Watch the Gods of Egypt Super Bowl spot after the jump. Read More »

the brothers grimsby clips

The Brothers Grimsby, or Grimsby, depending on which side of the Atlantic you call home, certainly sounds amusing enough. Mark Strong is England’s top spy, an unstoppable James Bond type with all of the skills you’d find in a movie action hero. Sacha Baron Cohen is his loser brother, a disgusting soccer hooligan. Naturally, the two of them are thrust together to save the world from a villainous plot of some kind. But in terms of execution… Well, let’s just say that the marketing hasn’t been particularly inspiring.

Sony has released a batch of new clips from the film, as well as a few “red band TV spots” (how is that a thing?), to promote the film’s U.K. release. Hence the Grimsby instead of The Brothers Grimsby. You can check them out below, if that sounds like your kind of thing.

Eddie the Eagle Super Bowl Spot

This weekend brings Super Bowl 50, and just as with every Super Bowl before it, advertisers will be pulling out all the stops to spend big bucks on commercials that millions will see. Which Movies Will Have Ads at the Super Bowl?

THE JUNGLE BOOK

The Super Bowl has to be the only television broadcast of the year where the ads are almost as eagerly hyped as the event itself. Even those who don’t know a touchdown from a tackle often tune in for the commercials, and with good reason: companies spend millions just staking out ad space during the game, and millions more to produce some of the slickest, funniest, weirdest, and generally most attention-grabby spots you’ll see all year.

That includes the major movie studios, which annually seize the event to pitch their biggest pictures to millions and millions of viewers. So which movie Super Bowl commercials can we expect to see this Sunday? Find out after the jump.

UPDATE: Since we first published this story, both Captain America: Civil War and Eddie the Eagle have teased Super Bowl spots. Read More »

warcraft tv spot

We’re a spoiled bunch, aren’t we?

Allow me to put on my Old Man Hat for a second. Once upon a time, the mere presence of a big budget movie as strange as Warcraft would have been exciting. Before the Lord of the Rings trilogy came along and made high fantasy palatable to the masses, this kind of movie simply wasn’t a thing. Fantasy films of this scope were relics of a brief period in the ’80s. The nerds of the early ’00s were still nursing burns from Dragonheart and that Dungeons & Dragons movie.

So when I watch the new Warcraft TV spot that has just arrived, I try to summon the me of 15 years ago, the me who would have watched footage of orcs battling humans while gryphons soared in the skies overhead with stars in his eyes. Even if the footage doesn’t do it for you, it’s amazing that this film exists in the first place.

Batman v Superman TV Spot

We’re about two months away from seeing several DC Comics superheroes converge on the big screen for the first time ever in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. If the most recent theatrical trailer didn’t show enough, the TV spot with Superman denting the Batmobile and footage from the DC Films TV special last week gave us plenty more teases of what to expect from this clash of comic titans. And now a couple more Batman v Superman TV spots show off just how tense things are between the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) and the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck). Watch! Read More »

game of thrones season 6 teasers

Things have been awfully quiet on the Game of Thrones news front and that’s because HBO knows that we will beg for scraps and be happy when they toss us vague teasers and tiny snippets of new footage. Not even the return of Bran Stark can deter us from one of the most consistently entertaining and impeccably crafted television shows in the history of the medium.

So today, we present a new offering of scraps: three brief Game of Thrones season 6 teasers, each one reminding you that the great houses of Westeros are totally screwed and that there are more than a few nasty villains still drawing breath and threatening the heads of your favorite characters.
