These photos of a promo statue for The Incredible Hulk popped up over at Cinematical and were apparently snapped at a toy fair. In what’s probably a clear indicator of the Hulk’s size in this June’s reboot starring Edward Norton, note the lady and decked-out Humvee to the statue’s right (as well as a new poster of sorts). I’ve attached a still from Ang Lee’s The Hulk after the jump for further comparisons. It would seem that TIH‘s Hulk has a more youthful, chiseled appearance, with a toned down shade of green skin. To me, Eric Bana’s Hulk always looked grumpy, like he wanted to get home, plop down on the couch and drink a cold one, so I’m liking this one’s aggro-ness a bit more. Of course, he has to move first.

UK-based company Synthetic Dimensions has gotten the rights to create a fully licensed lenticular 3D recreation of the original Star Wars Poster. I’m not exactly sure how they’ve done it, but they used the Synthetic Dimensions’ proprietary Syndimation process to convert the original 2D painting used in 1977 to promote the Star Wars. This unique, deep 3D lenticular poster is 47cm x 67cm (18.5″ x 26.5″ approx) requires no 3D glasses. I’ve seen some incredibly dimensional 3D posters in my day, so don’t let that crappy Speed Racer one-sheet scare you away from the lenticular processes. The company plans on selling the poster for only £12.99, or what translates into around $25 American (I’m sure there will be some shipping feeds as well). I’ll keep you guys updated on when this becomes publicly available. But for now check out the YouTube video after the jump to see some of the depth and detail Syndimation is hoping to show in the poster.

James Bond 22: Quantum of Solace Teaser Poster

Moviefone snagged the official teaser poster for Quantum of Solace, and I say mehhh. This poster takes advantage of the minimalism that’s so trendy right now, and so exquisitely exercised by Funny Games (this poster is mine, whether the remake sucks or not, do not care) and milks it until its literally dust. Playing it far too safe for a film that has more to prove, to me at least, than its predecessor, Casino Royale, I know what the defenders will say: Character is now iconic, yadda yadda, revenge, yadda, you must want a bikini yadda wadda. Of course, there’s a Scarface angle to the teaser that will earn a few shouts in the theater hall from people wearing silk pants. …Which is nice.
Update: It also reminds me of certain images from Lee Marvin’s Prime Cut. Jus’ sayin’.

Cool Stuff: Holographic Water Monster Invades Japan
Posted on Saturday, January 26th, 2008 by Peter Sciretta

Move over Cloverfield Monster. Godzilla beware, a new monster is running amuck in Japan. Don’t worry, it’s only one of the coolest movie promotions of recent years.
Columbia TriStar created this super-cool water-hologram to promote the release of The Water Horse. The hologram illusion uses a water screen created by a exact light projected on a carefully sprayed water jet to create a giant pseudo-3-D Loch Ness “Water Horse” monster in Tokyo Bay. Disney pioneered this technique years ago with their “Fantasmic” show at Disneyland. They now even use the effect on their Pirates of the Carribean and Indiana Jones rides.
The film premiered in Japan a couple weeks ago. Too bad the movie isn’t nearly as cool as this marketing stunt. Watch the video after the jump.

Cool Stuff: Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden Sundance Marketing
Posted on Saturday, January 19th, 2008 by Peter Sciretta
The buzz for Morgan Spurlock’s Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? has hit an all time high, as Sundance enters into it’s first weekend.
The viral marketing in Park City has people talking. The Weinstein Co has hired a team to hand out faux milk cartons featuring a Osama MISSING advertisement at venues around the loop. The carton features a photo of Bin Laden and includes vital stats of this world famous terrorist. The carton also features a website (whereisobl.com) and phone number (1-877-OSAMA08), which as of press time, disconnects before you can leave a message. On the opposite side of the cartoon is a Help Morgan Find Osama maze puzzle. And yes, it is easily solvable. If only Osama were this easy to find. Check out photos below.
The poster advertising around Park City is a parody of the Indiana Jones – Radiers of the Lost Ark one-sheet. Click on the image to the right to enlarge. I apologize for the poor quality photo, it was the best we could get. Thanks to Neil from Film School Rejects for letting me borrow his super duper camera for this.
Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden premieres at Sundance on Monday. Please check back for our full report.
I’ve written about some of the cool Juno t-shirt promos that Fox Searchlight passed out at the advanced screenings. But check out this killer Hamburger phone that was sent out to select critics. The box art features the quote from the movie:
“Can you hold on for a second? I’m on my hamburger phone. It’s just like really awkward to talk on.”
I’m still not cool enough to get any of the really neat swag, but maybe someday. Now if only it were wireless, I could search around my apartment yelling “Where did I put my hamburger!?” On second thought, maybe its better that I wasn’t included on the Hamburger phone mailing. Below is a photo of Juno (played by Ellen Page) using a hamburger phone in the film.

Cool Stuff: Dark Knight Promotional Items from The Joker
Posted on Monday, January 14th, 2008 by Hunter Stephenson
Most of us are aware of the viral baked cakes sent to the media to promote The Dark Knight, but back in December soft rocker John Mayer received something arguably cooler. Inside a package from a fictional company called Gotham Novelties, Inc., he discovered a limited edition Joker t-shirt and a worn playing card; its backside scribbled with maniacal red “HA”s. My favorite part might be the packaging itself, which bears the classy design of an upscale metro gift shop and hints that it was dropped in a Gotham gutter before it was dropped off by an unwashed Joker henchman.
