As a film fan, you’ve likely discussed the notion of owning movie props. If price weren’t an issue, what one prop would you love to own? Something from Star Wars perhaps. Something from Alien. Maybe an artifact from a Quentin Tarantino film. Literally, the list could go on and on. And every once in a while, there are movie prop auctions held that allow you to own a piece of film history.
Now, these don’t come cheap. A unique prop or costume used in the filming of an iconic movie like Back to the Future or Terminator 2: Judgement Day is going to cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. Sometimes, a lot more. But they are available and it’s at least fun to look, right?
Later this week, the Prop Store is hosting one of these auctions. On October 16, almost 400 items from all the films listed above as well as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Die Hard with A Vengeance, Starship Troopers, Mission Impossible, Hellboy, Death Proof, Scarface, Batman and so many more will go up for auction. It’ll take place live in London as well as online. Below, we’ve selected our twenty favorite lots in the auction. Check out this amazing movie prop auction below. Read More »

From posters and records to VHS videos, Mondo has their hands in everything. But new fans might forget where the company got their start – in clothing. Their website isn’t “Mondo Posters” after all, it’s “Mondo Tees.” And though they release a few t-shirts here and there, that aspect of the business has gone pretty quiet. But today they’ve diving back in big time.
The company has just announced the Mondo 237 collection. It’s a series of sweaters, accessories and household products based on the carpet design of the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining, which was recently featured in the poster for the documentary Room 237. It’s a rare occasion to specifically call out a single day’s Teefury t-shirt, but it’s a rare occasion for one to be this awesome. Popular Mondo artist Tom Whalen is behind the Wednesday March 26 design and it’s called “Back to the Future Past.” The image blends the characters of the X-Men with Back to the Future, in a similar time travel way to the upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past.
This t-shirt, which costs only $11, is only on sale until midnight tonight, Easter Standard Time at Teefury.com.

Technically, we’ve still got one year to go before Marty McFly is due to fly in from 1985 in his DeLorean. But so far, it’s not looking all that likely that next year will deliver on the oddly ’80s-ish future promised in Back to the Future Part II. There are no hoverboards in the streets, the Jaws frachise stalled after four installments, and fax machines are growing more obsolete by the day.
Still, there’s at least one detail that’s sure to come true if Tinker Hatfield has anything to do with it. The Nike designer has revealed that power laces are indeed coming in 2015, just as Back to the Future Part II said they would. More on the announcement after the jump.

Skywalker Ranch, the Pixar Campus, Quentin Tarantino’s home theater, Stanley Kubrick’s estate: all places a film fan would kill to visit, but few ever get the chance to see. Another spot undoubtedly on that list is Bleak House. That’s what Guillermo del Toro calls the additional house he bought to devote to his collection of cool stuff, including props, posters, toys, any -and everything you’ve ever wanted to own in the realm of sci-fi, fantasy, horror and movie memorabilia.
Most people never get to see it, but on the Criterion Collection DVD for Cronos, del Toro actually did a guided tour of the space. It’s been online for about a year, but we were just turned onto it. And it’s as awesome as you’d imagine. Read More »
