February is almost upon us, which means we’re a few short weeks away from the early blockbuster season of 2012. Before you know it, films fit for Summer invade the Spring. The Hunger Games, Wrath of the Titans, and 21 Jump Street all open soon; the early blockbuster season kicks off on March 9 with Disney’s John Carter. Directed by Oscar-winner Andrew Stanton, this big budget adaptation of the influential sci-fi fantasy novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs brings incredibly lofty expectations. So what better way to begin fulfilling those expectations than with a Super Bowl commercial and some huge contests?

After the jump, check out a tease of John Carter‘s Super Bowl commercial, find out how Walt Disney World passholders can see the film early and learn about a contest for anyone actually named “John Carter.” Read More »

Sony will be holding a special advance screening of 30 Minutes or Less at Comic-Con on Friday, July 22nd at 8PM and stars Danny McBride and Nick Swardson invite YOU to see the early screening with the cast and crew, including Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, Michael Pena and director Ruben Fleischer who will introduce the screening and return for a Q&A session afterwards. We have 15 tickets to give away (not pairs, but 15 single tickets). To enter, shoot an e-mail to slashfilm@gmail.com with the name of the person attending (first and last). We’ll be randomly selecting and e-mailing the winners by Tuesday night with details. Please do not enter unless you are sure you can attend.

While most people clamor for one or two free movie screenings every few weeks (or months, or years depending on where you live) at San Diego Comic-Con, you’ll be shooing them off like flies. Every night, multiple films screen for free and the big decision is, “How do I decide which film to go to?” The dilemma, then, for the studios is, “How do we make our screening stand out?” Anchor Bay Films has the right idea with this special screening of The Divide, directed by Xavier Gens (Hitman, Frontier(s)) and starring Michael Biehn, Rosanna Arquette, Milo Ventimiglia and Peter Stormare.

Set in a bunker-like Manhattan basement immediately following a nuclear attack, The Divide is the violent and disturbing story of what happens when you’re stuck in a enclosed space with strangers and the end of the world is right outside your door. Think Saw meets Fallout 3. If it sounds claustrophobic, then you’re getting the idea. Now imagine seeing The Divide not in a movie theater but in a similar dark, dank basement with a very small audience. That’s what they’re doing at Comic-Con. You’ll get to see a screening of the film in this scary setting, attend a cocktail reception (free food and drinks!) and then get a free, limited edition Mondo poster for the movie by famed comic book artist Jock (The Losers.)

Sound interesting? Well if you’re going to be in San Diego, we’ve got 5 pairs of tickets to giveaway and all you need to do is leave your name and email in the comments below. Read More »

A few weeks back, we announced that we’re going to be attending/covering the 2010 Cannes Film Festival thanks to Stella Artois. We also revealed that that you too would have a chance to join us in France, as Stella was holding a contest to send one lucky person to the festival for a weekend.

The whole bit revolves around Stella’s new marketing campaign showcasing Jacques d’Azur, the French bon-vivant who is offering his lavish weekend. As today is the last day to enter the contest and win a trip to Cannes, we have one more final video entitled “In Memory Of Jacques d’Azur, Legend and King of Cannes, 1939-2010″ to share with you, as a reminder that this will be your last chance to enter the contest. To enter, all you need to do is visit StellaArtois.com, connect the contest with your Facebook account, and then “add your name to the will.” Check out the final video and more information on the contest embedded after the jump!
