Usually the Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live is an exciting, joyous, hilarious star-studded affair. With Kevin Hart hosting the final episode of 2017, it seemed like a safe bet that this episode would deliver the goods, maybe even with some help from his Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle co-stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black and Karen Gllian. But unfortunately, that was not the case.

Returning for his third time hosting, Kevin Hart brought his signature high energy to the late night sketch comedy series, but he certainly didn’t bring many laughs. Any genuine hilarity was few and far between, and most of the sketches felt half-baked, lazy and fell flat.

Let’s run through the best and worst sketches of the Kevin Hart hosted Saturday Night Live below. Read More »

James Franco Hosted Saturday Night Live

James Franco returned to host Saturday Night Live for his fourth time last night, and while the Christmas episode of the season is still a week away, the writers couldn’t help but dig into the holidays a bit for a satisfying episode overall.

Perhaps the reason this episode was mostly a success was because they chose to tackle politics in a way that didn’t require actually portraying any of the sleazeball politicians from both sides of the aisle and figured out a clever way to deal with the horrors of everyday’s news headlines. No matter what the reason, there’s plenty of good stuff here, including James Franco making fun of himself quite a bit.

Saoirse Ronan Hosted Saturday Night Live

This weekend brought the first of the final three episodes finishing out 2017 for Saturday Night Live, and we got to see the wonderful Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird, Brooklyn) make her hosting debut. The New York native brought her signature Irish brogue to Studio 8H, and she couldn’t have been more comfortable among the seasoned comedians of SNL.

But how was the episode? Thankfully, this was a solid episode of Saturday Night Live with the right mix of satire, oddity and even a couple of sketches that felt like they went against the grain of the more popular SNL sketch formulas. Fork Yes: ‘The Good Place’ Season 3 is Happening

The Good Place renewed

Maybe this isn’t such a Bad Place after all. Because someone must be looking out for us for Mike Schur‘s high-concept comedy The Good Place to be renewed for season 3.

Starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, the wacky half-hour series is easily one of the best comedy shows on TV right now, tackling existential angst with a screwball sensibility — and it’s only upped its game in season 2 after the first season presented an eleventh-hour game-changing twist. And while there’s no way to know what direction this show will go, at least there will be plenty of free shrimp cocktails along the way.

Chance the Rapper Hosted Saturday Night Live

That’s right. Out of the six episodes of Saturday Night Live we’ve had so far, the best episode of the season wasn’t hosted by a huge movie star or a popular comedian. Instead it was hosted by chart-topping hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper, who makes the case for his own career in comedy effortlessly.

Chance the Rapper has taken to the stage in Studio 8H before a a musical guest on SNL, but this was his first time hosting the show. While he seemed a little nervous at the top of the show, he gradually got more and more comfortable as the night went on and proved that he has some impressive comedy chops. So let’s run through the best and worst sketches of the Chance the Rapper hosted Saturday Night Live below.

Tiffany Haddish Hosted Saturday Night Live

This weekend, Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish became the first black female stand-up comedian to host Saturday Night Live (previously Maya Rudolph hosted, but she was an improvisational comic and not a stand-up act). Haddish brought ample energy tot he late night sketch program in her hosting debut, and she had was more confident than some of the most seasoned talents who have taken the stage in Studio 8H. Though the show surrounding her wasn’t raucously hilarious, it was a solid episode of SNL that allowed Haddish to really show off her comedy skills.

Larry David Hosted Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live returned this weekend with the first of a back-to-back three-episode run leading up to week of Thanksgiving. To kick things off, we had Larry David returning to host for his second time at Studio 8H, but unfortunately it was nowhere near as noteworthy as his debut back in early 2016.

Larry David’s return to SNL was extremely average. Even the best sketches of the night weren’t particularly fantastic, but merely the best of the night. Many sketches felt like they were trying far too hard, including and especially the return of Larry David as Bernie Sanders, which was shoehorned in for no good reason.

Let’s run through all of the sketches from the Larry David hosted Saturday Night Live below.

MSU Motorcycle Specialty Unit

As the writer and producer of a majority of the movies in the Fast and Furious franchise, Chris Morgan knows a thing or two about high-octane thrillers. But his latest TV project feels more like something you might see a quick snippet of in the background of a Fast and Furious scene than a real show that’s actually coming to network television. But prepare yourselves, because MSU: Motorcycle Specialty Unit is revving up and racing to the small screen courtesy of NBC.
