bojack horseman s2 trailer

The Netflix series BoJack Horseman has a goofy comic concept: Will Arnett voices a drunk, washed-up actor who is also a horse. And while the show’s first season was often pretty goofy, it also turned out to be a brutally funny and frequently very dark evisceration of celebrity culture, media, and many other aspects of modern life. It also works well as a full season of interconnected stories — the show isn’t just a string of jokes, but a character piece that builds some involving arcs.

Now there’s a trailer for the second season. Naturally it focuses more on quick jokes than any deeper stuff, but it’s still great. Check out the BoJack Horseman S2 trailer below.

All Netflix has to say about this season is:

BoJack’s back — and this year… He’s really trying to be a better Horseman. The Netflix original series BoJack Horseman returns for an all new season July 17. Only on Netflix.

That’s enough, really. After the consistently self-destructive behavior the ol’ BoJack exhibited in the first season, it’ll be good to see him trying to make a real go of things. Well, good, and probably also hilarious, because he’s likely terrible at being a “better Horseman.”

After all, one big point in the first season (vague spoiler ahoy) is that, when he’s not covering his lack of confidence and feelings of inadequacy with wanton self-destruction, BoJack’s attempts to fulfill his own dreams often still manage to alienate everyone he knows. So being a good person (horse, whatever) may not be in his DNA.

There’s fun material in that trailer, and hopefully having the characters and relationships established means that this second season can get even more daring and wacky than the first. Though in the context of this show, having BoJack interested in actually creating a “real” relationship with the character voiced by Lisa Kudrow does stand as daring.

In addition to Will Arnett characters are voiced by Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul. New guest star Lisa Kudrow also takes on a character, who you’ll see in the new trailer. The show was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg.
