Toby Kebbell is one of the most fun young character actors working today. I’m always thrilled to see him added to a cast, even when the film in question has the unlikely logline “An angel under the thumb of a ruthless gangster is saved by a trumpet player down on his luck.” In this case, the film was Passion Play, being directed right now by The Recruit screenwriter Mitch Glazer.
But Kebbell has dropped out of the cast, and in a rare stroke of luck (for us) has been replaced by Bill Murray. So now Murray will be Happy Shannon, the mobster that has the number of a hapless angel (Megan Fox) who is rescued by a trumpet player (Mickey Rourke). Yeah, read that again. Fox as an angel (seriously?) and Rourke as an addition to the pantheon of unlikely cinematic trumpeters, where he’ll be in good company with guys like Val Kilmer.
Glazer, incidentally, was also the writer of Murray’s new holiday classic Scrooged.
