Best Stories Of The Week: Steve Jobs, Star Trek 3, Simon Pegg, Scorch Trials & More

It's that time of the week again. We're certainly looking forward to a nice holiday weekend, and if you were too busy to stay on top of all the news this week, we've got a round-up of all the stories you need to catch up on.

Below you'll find a round-up of trailers for summer movies like Pixels, sequels like The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, and the likely awards contender Steve Jobs. We also have updates on Star Trek 3, a controversial point of view on geek culture from Simon Pegg, more Mad Max: Fury Road goodies and some Tomorrowland exploration as well. #20. Skyfall Cinematographer to Lens Blade Runner 2

new Blade Runner trailerRoger Deakins is responsible for being the director of photography on gorgeous films like True Grit, The Shawshank Redemption, O Brother Where Art Thou?, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. And while we don't know if the forthcoming sequel Blade Runner 2 will actually be good, we at least know that it will look beautiful, because Deakins has been hired to take care of the cinematography on the project. The first official photos from the 8-episode order of the prequel series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day at Camp have arrived. As you can see, everyone from the original 2001 Sundance comedy is back, and there are even more new faces for the summer camp comedy. The series hits Netflix exclusively on July 31st. #15. Disney Continues the Live-Action Parade with Tinker Bell

While plenty of Disney movies are getting live-action remakes, like Mulan and Dumbo, this time the House of Mouse is giving one of their more iconic supporting characters the live-action treatment. Disney is developing a live-action movie focusing on Peter Pan's fairy sidekick Tinker Bell. Bringing her to life will be Wild and Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon. The magician heist film Now You See Me already has a sequel slated to arrive in 2016, and now we have confirmation that Lionsgate is working on turning this into a trilogy with Now You See Me 3 already in development. #8. Simon Pegg Talks Star Trek 3 Script and Childish Geek Culture

First up, he talked a bit about the developing script for Star Trek 3, and mentioned that Paramount Pictures was a little adverse to the first draft of the script, saying it was too "Star Trek-y" to work for general audiences. In addition, Pegg also offered some thoughts on the status of today's geek culture and how our obsession with nostalgia, superheroes and the like might be "infantilizing" geek culture, thus making it hard for some nerds to be better adults. #7. George Miller Has a Title for Mad Max: Fury Road Sequel

If you haven't seen Mad Max: Fury Road yet, then stop reading this and go see it right now. And if you haven't seen it twice, then you should probably do the same. For those of us who have already seen it, we're undoubtedly looking forward to a sequel. We don't have any details on what the sequel might follow, but George Miller revealed in an interview that as of now, the sequel would be called Mad Max: The Wasteland. Find out more right here.

Also, if you've been desperate to learn more about the infamous character with the flame-throwing guitar, known as the Doof Warrior, you might be happy to know that he has an entire backstory. However, not everyone is keen to know all these kind of details, and I can't say that I disagree. But one thing I am keen on is this hilariously perfect mash-up of Mad Max: Fury Road and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

#6. Dwayne Johnson Returning for Fast and Furious 8

This is a no-brainer, but Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that he will be back for Fast and Furious 8. The film is already scheduled for release in April of 2017, but that's really all we know about the sequel so far. Johnson also discussed the possibility of a spin-off film focused on his character Hobbs, but to get details on that, you'll have to read the original report.

#5. Phil Lord Talks Animated Spider-Man Movie & The Flash

One half of the directing duo behind The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street opened up about their forthcoming comic book projects at Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures. Phil Lord & Chris Miller are developing a standalone animated Spider-Man movie at Sony while also working on the story for The Flash in the DC Comics universe. However, Lord reveals that both movies will have a style all their own, with little influence from the comic book worlds around them. Even The Flash is said to be much different than what will be happening in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and other DC Comics movies. #4. First Images from Warcraft Movie Show Orgrim the Orc

The first official images of Orgrim Doomhammer, the lead orc in the big screen adaptation of Warcraft, surfaced earlier this week. He's a motion-capture character, and if these stills are any indicator, he's going to look incredible. See another photo over here.

#3. David Letterman Says Goodbye to The Late Show

Everyone was talking about the last episode of The Late Show with David Letterman this week. Bill Murray popped out of a cake, Norm Macdonald gave a touching tribute and Adam Sandler sang a silly song. While there's much praise for the power of feminism in the film, thanks to the strong female characters like Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron), our own Angie Han delivered a thoughtful and insightful look at what the film has to say about masculinity too.
